What are these robots I read about w/pactor...I always thought you had at least at one time have to be in control of your station, but I saw some who said the pactor robots are unmanned and scan the amateur frequencies..anyexplanation

Yes thats what they do...they scan and respond to incoming calls so the onus on use is on the station calling in which initiates the call.
My pactor station is located 125km away from the house and other than by watching whats going through remote desk top I seldom have to do anything.
The yachties call in, establish a connection, send and download their messages and go away.
heck of a deal except if you happen to be working on the same frequency when someone who does not hear you initiates a connection.
