S-meter TS450s Jumping

has any one see or had there S-meter do this on a TS450sat? is it a quick fix? i don't hear any popping out of the speaker.. so i may just have to live with it

Sounds like there is a lot of static on the band. That meter is digital and will respond lightning fast to static crashes where an analog meter will barely make a little blip. It could be just millisecond crashes that you don't even hear. Does it do that on a quiet band with a strong signal too?

I bleave it will sill do it with the antenna unplugged I'll verify this and get video of it

It did coincide with the static crashes.

ok whent to power it up with out the antenna plunged in letting it run and the screen was dead grate.....

DC power negative lead not making contact to radio and the radio would be getting it's ground thru the coax cable shield. Much more common in mobile installs but not unheard of in base stations.

Yeah, add some CMC's into the mix and it will drive the meter crazy

oh no the radio turns on i get static and i can scan though the freq but the display is not working... so it is getting power

What about the power supply you are using?
They can introduce a lot of static into the receiver because of poor design - too . . .

It will do it when i am out camping in Allegheny state park running on a 12V battery on a G5RV Jr...

its not a big deal i was just hoping it was not a symptom of a bigger issue.. now i need to see why the display is dead... just have not had time to open it up..
