SBE Console V, Cobra 2000 GTL or Tram D-201 Which One

I love the look of those rigs... never owned one but heard they weren't the best performers. Were there any mods around that helped to mitigate their shortcomings?

- Rob

I saw a guy that put Cobra 148 GTL guts in one on fleabay. Seemed to clean up a few of the problems, if a bit on the extreme side.

I know a guy in Georgia who made a few "DaCobra" radios.

Or was it "Dakobra"? His site was bigknobradios.com. Probably on the wayback machine.

He insisted on using Cobra 148 radios. Wouldn't put in anything built like a Galaxy. Insisted the receivers were too noisy for his taste.

The tricky part was to make those big meters work properly hooked to the new radio guts. Came up with a buffer circuit that made the S-meter read like it should.

But he ceased all those operations a few years back.

Nothing lasts forever.

The cobra 148GTL-DX MK II is one of only two "export" radios produced by Uniden, the other being the original President Jackson. 120 channels (regular CB channels plus 40 up and 40 down), and can be modded for many more. AM/FM/SSB/CW modes. 5 watt single final rig but set up to easily add a 2nd final. Excellent TX and RX, along with typical Uniden freq stability and build quality. The MK II model was the best IMO.

It was just a hand over deal I got from of a friend , no research on it, neighbor wanted a decent radio , I picked it up & sold it to him for $100 in pristine condition , he no longer was interested in radio so I just got it back in a trade .

Thanks Nt , Guess I just have a 148 Gtl Dx . I never played much w/ export radios but similar to the Galaxy 99v as far as channels less the watts & the Robot sounds which I Hate ! That's why I've never used the Galaxy , just a " Yup I have one " type of radio .
