Another question: What is the real benefit of purchasing a $5800 radio like the Icom 7700 over a 7300 for $1300? (doesn't have to be Icom. Am talking about comparable Yaesu and Kenwood models as well.)

Hmm the $250 I spent on my Yaesu has served me well.

I have a spectrum scope on my FTdx-3000. I find it to be a useful tool, but really like using my SdrPlay RSP1 as a panadapter on the rx out on my rig. Tie the rig and SDR-Console together with Omni-rig on my laptop, and I can point and click on signals on the band, and the rig follows. It makes finding stations very easy.
