Iwas born and raised in Ohio,

Just to add my two cents I was born in N.C. lived in cinci OH till was 7 after my military service I went back to cinci and lived there for for about six years and I'll tell ya from what I've seen some of the radios up north are just as bad if not worse around the big city!

Daaaaang, it's a small world! Weatherman49, I have lived in Cinci all my life and have been active in radio for over 30 years, you have probably come in contact with me (if you went to either of the main radio repair shops) and did not know it.

When I started this topic, it was not so that you guys could beat up on each other, it was so that we could gang up and "Tar and Feather" a certain guy whos' initials are J.O. 8) .

OK, now lets all band together and run this fellow out of "Town" on a rail for stereotyping all 11 meter operators as hillbillies and hicks who speak with a heavy southern drawl and drive 18 wheelers with export radios.

BTW: I betcha that OF (J.O.) is as happy a sissy-on-a-troop-train to see his foolishness being commented upon over here; notice that he has not popped his wealsley little head up! :?

Paws spent many an hour at the shop in Norwood!! was a member of 2 local cb clubs the double duce in Norwood and 18 around Felicity! Couple of names you might recognize!

and several more but its been 10 years so I have forgotten alot of them! but I bet ya may have been around! use to have coffe breaks at the shony in Norwood had great family outings for labor day and memorial day at the park! Did things for the kids at chrismas even raised a little money for some charities now if thats not familie oriented I don't know what is!

No me and pluto are kind of ganging up on (OP197) same thing! stereotyping people on 11m says we are nothing but cb trash southern hicks and the like!

I understand how or why Hams get upset when unlicensed people invade your airwaves (Hams work for the privledge) I agree with that... CBers shouldn't be on 10 meters or use equipment that TXes on 2, 15, 20, 40, 80, 160...ect. Hams have every right to get upset over that....no argument here on that. If you stop and notice.....I'm calling you out on your intolerence to diversity (big words for a hick right?) that's all. Your opinion of people that don't fit your criteria.....sucks. (CB trash,,,Southern hicks) now are YOU still confused? So far I haven't seen you call African Americans the "N" word....so mabye there's still a shread of deciency in you yet. I'm not anti Ham.....just anti Jerk. And by the way.....Iwas born and raised in Ohio, moved here 4 years ago, and I have to say that I have met the nicest people, ate the best food and the winters down here are fantastic so if you (and others) actually think that southern folks are "hicks" then I'll wear that lable proudly.

OK, I am going to respond to this as nicely as I can. First of all, the people I am speaking of are those who are breaking the law. I found this original thread on a "penny" forum and spoke of THE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO ARE PIRATING ON 29 MHZ. I did not SAY ALL CBers, I-was-talking-specifically-about-the group of bandits who seem to feel the law doesn't apply to them. In the above quote, you agreed that CBers (pirates, outlaw ops--whatever) should not be on the ham bands. And they shouldn't. They have the same privilege hams did to study, test, and obtain the SAME license(s) *I* did. You are wanting me to "respect" that group of people who refuse to respect the earned privileges of hams the world over. It p***es me OFF that people will just ignore the laws of the land, indicating they think they are just sooooooo special and they can just waltz right in and sit down on a frequency with not a fare thee well. It is obvious that I don't like it. Well, sorry. I am going to keep disliking it. And mocking the group of people that I HEAR disrespecting the law. I will NOT respect this group of people with their spattering linears, interference, and their presence on frequencies where they have NO business. Period. The REAL CBERS who obey the law, stay OUT of the ham bands (and other known government frequencies) I will not mock or deride. What you are saying, Pluto, is that I have no right to express an opinion or make it known that there an activity for which I hold the uttermost contempt; that of, filching frequencies, splattering from DC to daylight (and, through utter ignorance) think that is the best thing since sliced bread. I did not BRING that thread here. PAWS--- did. Might I point out that there more than just *me* that get pretty darned angry over this crap. But you can't make the distinction between CBers and PIRATES and OUTLAWS who deserve to be put in the slammer for a few weeks/months/years to teach them to respect the privileges of other operators. The pirates and outlaws I will NOT respect. I WILL mock them with the derision they deserve AND report their activities to the proper authorities. Why? Because if the Amateur bands were populated with people where anything goes like *certain* other bands (and the people who just LOVE that environment), it would be like, well, um, lessee. OH yeah, that OTHER meter band we know so well! SCREEEEEEEEEEEEE! HOOOOOOOWLLLLLLLLL! ROOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

When I posted that in another forum, I was calling for the hams to watch for the P I R A T E activity on 29 MHZ. I didn't SAY watch for ALL CBERS to be on 29 MHZ, now DID I. Yes, I MOCKED the people who were DOING that. Might do it again. Why is it NOT OK to fuss at/about people who are doing something WRONG both ethically and legally? What SHOULD I do? Just smile broadly and say, "Go my son and sin no more?"
It makes me MAD! OK??? You are not going to sit there and tell me that *some* things don't make you very angry! Don't TELL me you DON'T have less than complimentary things to say about things and people that tick you off. OK! The 10 Meter thing P***ES me OFF! REAL CBers aren't stupid. They have the same privilege to get the same license I did. Do it RIGHT; you get my respect. Stay OUT of the 10 Meter band (and certain gov't freqs); you get my respect. Plant yer butt on 10 meters with the culture, lingo, and attitude that pervades the outlaw crowd, they get utter derision, revilement, and ridicule that they richly deserve. What IS it with this attitude of "entitlement" that so pervades our society these days? And if anyone DARE object, he is the villain, instead of the perp!!!

The bottom line is. The 29 MHZ outlaws are not welcome. They will never BE welcomed so long as they wrap themselves up in this *I am this here BIG radio operator that don't need no stinkin' license, an' I can just march right in and y'all can't do nothing about it!" So who is really wrong? The ones who stick up for these people? The ones who, perhaps, vicariously, approve of the activity tho they themselves don't do it themselves? The ones who are plopping down on the 10 Meter FM repeater inputs? The ones who happen to OBJECT vehemently to it? I think it is the people who filch frequencies with the tired old argument that, "well, the CB band is crowded, so I have a "right" to talk up there". WHOSE fault is it that it is crowded? WHO messed it up? The USERS themselves ruined it with the VERY activities they so dearly love; amplifiers, golden screwdrivers, and their "extra" channels.
Who gets a ticket or a fine if found? The illegal ops, that's who. Not the people who quietly studied the material and earned the privilege.IF hams OR CBers are violating the law, then they should recieve the proper punishment, IMHO.

So get the ticket! You find Amateurs are no different than CBers. They-are-people-too-with-the-same-foibles-and-mistakes-AND-opinions as anyone else. *I* just happen to get mad when I read (or hear) of this sort of stuff. It's a weakness, OK? IF that's what you want to hear. If I have offended LEGAL, non-INTERFERRING operators who are not filching the ham bands, I'm sorry. But no matter what, I will continue to get angry when I find bandits and I might say something about it, too! But you notice *I* didn't bring it here. I posted it somewhere else where the matter concerns hams, not CBers as a group. The group I wish would shock their eyeballs out are illegal and equivilent to THIEVES, AFAIK.
CBers are fine. THERE IS a difference.

This is about the last thing I will say for now. I am dealing with things right now far more important that a flaming match about 10 Meters :( I have tried to explain my side without being derisive to those here (and I won't do that anymore in THIS forum) Haven't you noticed the difference? What I post in different forums about a variety of subjects is none of anybody's beeswax. If I come here and start deriding people (other than those who are CRIMINALS as far as I am concerned), THEN it's time to attack me. I have opinions just like anyone else. If you don't like them, well I am sorry. We can agree to disagree. :)

Well, I fixed many a radio and amp out of Unit 7's shop, i haven't seen any of that old crew (Hammer, C-cup, Green Giant, Racer X, Hawkeye, Ol Ben etc.) but Loony T was working at the Walmart on Ridge.

There were only 2 of us in the shop; the Ol' man retired and moved up towards Oxford. So, you know who I am.

A few thoughts:

1) CBers and freebanders are big boys. They know the stakes and what they'll lose -IF- they get caught.

2) What happens outside the ham bands is simply none of my concern. That is, unless someone is running an overly wide signal that generates interference to said bands.

3) On the other hand, what happens inside the ham bands most definitely IS my concern. I will not, however, attempt to caricaturize or denigrate those who operate on said bands without benefit of a proper license. What I will do is gather facts...record data...and submit it to the proper enforcement channels in the form of a grammatically correct, innuendoless summarization.

4) Reading through this thread and others like it scattered 'round the 'Net, one begins to wonder if reports of '...the problem...' may be slightly exaggerated. I have a bank (literally) of communications receivers which are used to monitor the HF spectrum; most are computer controllable and can be set up to scan a given frequency range...then analyze the content of any captured signals.

10M happens to be my favorite HF band, owing to the diversity of signals present and propagation modes available...there's always one (or more) receivers searching the 28-29.7 MHz range when I'm around the shack. Sometimes I'll just let a receiver run on 'scan' and dump its output to a recorder for post-detection analysis.

In the two years I've been actively monitoring, one (1) 'illicit' conversation was observed to have taken place on 28.085...between truckers...nothing since. Out-of-the-country ops are another matter entirely; a listener can manage to hear LOTS of them around 28.300-.350 when the band is up.

Otherwise...zip. Zero. Nada.

5) Hearsay and rumor do not constitute a violation. On the air infractions do; however, you must actually commit them to be eligible for a citation. A person can make any number of statements about their bootlegging and freebanding activities - either real or imagined - but unless they're caught keying the mike...

The above holds true regardless if you read it here, or on any of the other SWL/ham/CB sites and newsgroups.

"What you are saying, Pluto, is that I have no right to express an opinion or make it known that there an activity for which I hold the uttermost contempt"................First off, sorry for the delay responding, internet was down for a long time. Ok, to the point....Where did I say that you have no right to express an opinion? I was just questioning what I believe to be misplaced "contempt" that seems to point toward southern people (ex: yeeeehaaa, thar, ect.) that's my point. If you noticed, I agreed that the licensed operators have a right to be upset when some (not all) "freebanders" invade your turf with noise toys, rodger beeps that take 10 seconds to end and echo so bad that you can't understand a spoken word. I believe that most CBers or "chicken banders" as some call us.....don't like it either. Freebanders are all over the USA but I don't see a northern accent being portrayed....just the obvious finger pointing to the south. As for breaking the law, can you honestly say that you always obey the speed limit? Be sure before you cast that first stone

I haven't had a speeding ticket in 25 years. I haven't even had fender bender in 10 (last one of those was not my fault). I must be doing something right! :)

Something maybe but not everything. BTW what does a driving record have to do with illegal 10m ops?? :?

QRN, I was referencing CWM's comment about......."It p***es me OFF that people will just ignore the laws of the land" I know that he's talking about radio, but "laws of the land" would include all laws. (I was more or less, tormenting(sp?) CWM) But the southern "hick" thing seems to be a typical attitude with some of the "intellectual" crowd...but thankfully, not all. Oh by the way....CWM, not getting a speeding ticket in 25 years only means that you've never been caught. :D
