Sirio engineers making antenna's from scrap materials?

These pictures display the companies machining capabilities and one of their soldering areas. I would say they have the ability to manufacture and test nearly every aspect of an antenna imaginable. Way beyond what most manufacturers have access to.

Nice work Homer. As you've already shown, you have the skills to construct many antennas while having fun in the process. That's using your hobby to the fullest benefit. Way to go!

I couldn't resist. The facilities at Sirio are impressive. I will at some point try to reconstruct in my facility one of the Gainmasters. I have done the V4k, and, while these originated with Avanti, even the Top One hasn't escaped my faltering attempt, but skipped back to the Astroplane version.

I tried my hand at a shortened radial version 5/8 wave, and while it looked cool, I found it disappointing after the full 1/4 wave radial 5/8. There were folks hearing DX around me that I also normally heard, but couldn't, while locally it did fine. I took it down and put a 1/4 wave up in its place until the reworked Qv4k went up.

What I'm saying is I find that Sirio has gotten a lot of attention for their antenna systems, and for the others they've redeveloped from previously existing types. This has led me to a healthy respect for the work they do, especially when I emulate their antennas and come out having learned something along the way, and got a fine antenna in the end.

I look forward to the day I screw up my courage to fight my way through a Gainmaster homebrew.

Personally, I do not think the Gainmaster is made from left overs, but what if it is, I have proven more than once that recycled materials can turn into great antennas. I am the only fellow I know that has a V4k that the foundation of the antenna is a water fowl retriever pole.

I love repurposed antenna parts.

Yep looks like they are a backyard company using inferior parts...:headbang
 
i feel like a part is a part . if it happens to work just fine on more than one antenna why would that be a problem ? they probably use the same diameter tubing in different amounts on several antennas ,,,,, is that a problem ? a part is a part , it just has to be electrically correct to work . it also has to be strong enough to survive the intended installation/climate , and if its pretty that count's for something too .

parts is parts , except for when it comes to food .

Say we have a 5/8 wave with a couple of radials and the sirio gainmaster.
We place them both at ground level.
Try to investigate a thing called ground losses, the sirio gain master just migth already have a advantege there.
Thats not to be irritating, please do try to find out. Only then one will actually learn something.

Besides that and although i highly disagree with the 0 degree take off angle of the sirio as show on there homepage (believe plot 6).
Due to the electrically different design of the sirio the antenna
Try to find out what actually is the take off angle and how it is influenced on vertical antennas.
Ill give a clue in the rigth direction:
For a normal 5/8 wave antenna the TOA (and the gain there) will depend on the efficiency of the radials beneath it.(also others aspects ofcourse)
But in aspect to the sirio im mentining the radials.

Now, if your unable to find out, im back next week and will help.

Thats only cause i most of the time agree with shockwave.
One can argue about the mechanical aspects of sirio, that its not "tornado proof".
But in my eyes that doesnt add up to the positive things.
The price is rigth. And in all honesty..It does seem that they are willing to provide honest gain figures. Sure they have some old "snake oil figures" on the site, and yes they will have to deal with the fact they used to advertise a lot worse...its difficult to get a good name where you have done things wrong in the past.
But! they are on the rigth track.
And if they continue it will only be a mather of time before they get a status of "honest".

Take a look at array solutions..the best in the USA... a 6elemens with 17dBI etc..Yes i know they ädded ground-gain, and yes they tell that on the site to! But we know that. The averege CBer doesnt. Its misleading simple as that. And im not mentioning anything about the price cause im to shocked to do so.
If they would advertise with straigth gain figures it wouldnt be more than a merge 11.12dBI

So, heck...perhaps not wise of me to mention (im in the antenna manufacturing world aswell), but overall Sirio has got my vote !
So, yes again..there is or sometimes migth be antennas wich are better, But its a fair price for a mechanical oke antenna with most of the time a electrical well design.

Bottom line with sirio is you get an antenna that will easily wipe the floor on build quality and to a lesser extent performance than you would if you buy any other make that is either cheaper or comparable in price to a sirio, that's a FACT.

to get better build quality costs megabucks and the performance gain of megabuck antennas is probably less than the gain you get going from cheap crap to sirio. pound for pound they are the best value antennas on the market, even if they are shrewd enough to buy in stock in bulk that will be used on multiple antenna designs, although i fail to see how they purchase stock affects the finished product.

as a matter of fact i've lost count of hy gain's, avanti's and antenna specialist (to name but a few) antennas i've seen in pieces over the years, destroyed by weather damage, despite the popular myth they are indestructible, that is far from the case. reality is far removed from many of the myths perpetrated in the radio hobby world.

antennas are no different to any other radio equipment or any other electronics gear for that matter, the more you spend the less proportional the improvements are compared to budget kit or the kit you upgraded from.

Any more of the test range? Turntable? Test equipment?

It would be a lot of fun to see a MOP of Sirio doing a test of CB type antennas.

I used to live 2 miles from Phelps Dodge's range.
