What if I wanted to loss the NMO and just go through the hole?
I think I would need something else as to not have the trunk bend with the wind speed pressure.
If you don't need to "angle" your antenna.

Get one of these:

Drill the hole out to 3/4", the dielectric on the mount is raised so the saw blade will stay centered and the Carbide teeth will dig into the underside of the trunk lid/deck for an excellent ground and zero flex. Install the insulator correctly (raised lip goes down into the hole to keep everything centered) and instead of the star washer I use a Stainless Steel flat washer (.5"ID x 1.25"OD x .085") to evenly distribute the load across the insulator and weatherproof it at the same time.
