Sirio SG-AC/U SO-239 Body Mount

Haven't ran into that yet but the performance compared to my k40 or wilson 5000 is worth the money to buy this setup, I have talked to people that I never heard with the k40

I love mine. I bought the hard mount but haven't installed it yet. Still using the 145 mag mount. Maintenance stuff, cleaning bug splat off,etc...

I can't put a hard mount on mine as it's my work van. I am limited to a mag mount and this is the best one I have found so far. My roof is nearly 9ft tall, so with this setup I am pretty tall and have to pay attention to where I am going lol. But my tx/rx range is definitely much better.

Whatever works for you. Mine will twang on an occasional low tree branch and I have a mini SUV And yes,I have a K40 that I keep for a back up or to play with. The 5000 leaves the K40 sitting in the dust.

For sure, I definite twang the trees, lol, but it does leave the k40 in the dust, now it's time to focus on a base station setup next time I'm back for vacation home, gotta go back to work Monday in Michigan. Glad the conditions have been good all week as I have had fun dx'ing all week here in Daytona beach, fl.

Well my camera is back from repair, so I grabbed a couple of pics to illustrate my original question. In the first pic you may see the base is smaller than the bottom of the antenna. When screwed down tightly it somewhat distorts the gasket that fits on the bottom of the antenna. In pic two you will see the gap that will collect and retain rain/moisture and thats what I'm concerned about. What do you guys think about it? Would some type of sealant be in order to maintain a seal around the gasket?

Here's the one I have.
They're supposed to have O-Rings. You could probably put a bead of silicone around it if that bothers you.

The mount itself is great and easy to install, that wheel with the notches marries up nicely to the mount and you can get it very snug. This mount is way better than the motorola NMO mount I had used for a VHF antenna.

You'll see what I'm talking about when you install yours; I did put that bead of silicone on there this morning.

Lil' Yeshua- I'd like to know how you like your sirio and the mount,
222 glad to hear that you are having great success with yours

BTW when I checked this morning my SWR is 1.1 on ch 1 and 1.2 on ch 40, that was right out of the box. Not too shabby

I love mine. I'm thinking about hard mounting mine either in the luggage rack area where there's roof reinforcement embossed ribbing or at the top of the C pillar and mount 90 degrees.

I wish I could hard mount mine, believe me I would have already, I have an old brass mount, don't remember the name but it's a nice one, a quick disconnect as well, rather large, had my 3 coil monkey made on it on my jeep. Hard mount is definitely the way to go if possible.

I spoke of this in a more recent thread and I'm of the opinion sirio should make a nut to lock the SO239 that's at least as large as the base of the p5000. And I think if that nut had the dimensions of the top, tapered piece on their large mag mount it'd be even better. The SG/AC-U mount is not made for those large antennas even though some italian dude with sirio told me it was. I'm back to the steel whip and contemplating a Wilson 5k to fill the hole in my roof.:bdh:

Guys, I emailed Sirio to inquire about the mount issue and the reply I received was "...the SO-239 Angular connector P/N 2506105.00 is the proper mount to use with the PL 5000.

I bought the wrong part.

Attached pic is from Sirio.

later
