Sirio SY 27-4

Nothing wrong at all.

You were helping me in another topic about a Maco 3 element with an Imax 2000 over it.
For the price this 4 element can't be beat. Do you think I would be better off with this antenna over M103C Maco antenna?
I could always mount my Imax 2000 somewhere else for local talking.

I run a Sirio SY 27-4. Wrote a review here on this forum too. Works far better than I expected for the $ spent. But here is the catch - and its a big one. I live in CA and we have pretty mild weather. No ice storms or snow. No real severe winds nor thunderstorms. This antenna is a very, very lightweight build. IIRC, the whole thing weighs only 11-12 lbs. Not a beefy build like the Maco at all.

I live in Michigan, the weather can be severe at times here. Other times not so bad. Makes me wonder how it would hold up?

Never seen one in person, but doesn't sound stout enough to handle Michigan weather according to Robb's assessment.

Can the elements of these beams be strengthened with hardwood dowel rods or something?

Hello Guys,

The sirio sy4:
Sirio SY 27-4

The swr plot is provided with 25 ohms..so the swr is 1;1 with the gamma match of course.

Conclusion: Not a bad antenna at all.
about 8,1dBI gain and 24 dB FB.

Now, i keep reading that maco is "bigger" but if i verify the element diameters.
(sirio 16,12,8 mm) to Maco ( 15,875 and 12,2mm) They are not that different at all.

I was always undert the impression maco used (like we do) for the center pieces more or less a inch thick. But that doesnt seem to be the case.
Infact it seem rather similair to "sirio".

Could someone point out in which way the maco is better from a mechanical point of view.? I think im missing somehting here.
Kind regards,

Henry

Sirio SY 27-5-6

I wonder why Sirio don't manufacture an SY27-5 or -6?

Most antenna manufacturers build 3,4,5 and even 6 element yagis as
standard.

I gue$$ Sirio would have to start using more heavy duty materials.

BTW nearly every aluminium Sirio 5/8 vertical I see around has a permanent
bend at the top section due to the wind.

the sirio beams use slightly shorter booms. not sure how much this would affect
the antenna ..if any. just my observerations

IIRC , the shorter boom has less rear rejection than the longer boom and slightly less forward gain , less wind-load , a smaller turning radius and less weight/work on the rotor than the same amount of elements on a longer boom set up for max forward gain and better backdoor rejection . IIRC ...............

well my 2016 been up since 09 ,has seen some nasty ice storms snow storms
and its survied. guess i just got lucky. i think thier quailty is just as good as
maco . but definately not as good as a 10k or coily.ill take my sirio over any
imax/99 anyday

i was thinking that but wasnt sure. sounds like a trade off to me. little less performance
and less wear tear on the rotor.
