Sirio SY27-3 3 Element Beam or Maco M103C 3 Element Beam?

I live in Michigan and the wind, snow, and ice in the winter can be brutal.
Some say the Sirio isn't made to handle strong winds and ice?

I just want to buy the better antenna for my location.
I also wonder how the gain compares between the Maco 3 and the Sirio 3?

I plan on mounting the beam antenna Horizontal and then attach my Imax 2000 above the beam.

From what I can find on the Internet, most users of the Sirio 3 element are happy.
I also find the same results for the Maco M103C.

A Moxon Rectangle. It has a similar gain to a 3 ele Syrio SY27-3 but is only 12ftx4ft, has slightly better F/B and is a lot lighter. You can do as I've done with mine and have the spreaders in a cross pattern and the mounting pole protruding a couple of feet above the center plate so you can run para cord from the top of it to the end of the spreaders to help them carry the weight.

If properly assembled and tuned there won't be any significant electrical differences between those three antennas. There are probably a lot of mechanical differences, and I have no idea which would be better suited for your purpose and location.

Hello,

The moxon is one of our best sellers for quite some years now.
And im confident we have pushed the antenna to its limit.
No doubt it is a great antenna (for it size)

However, If im allowed.. i would like to put things in a different perspective.

If the moxon really is so much better, my best guess would be:
There must be something seriously wrong with the 3el Yagi you had.
A "good" 3el Yagi can have 30dB front to rear and have a (sligthly) smaller beamwidth
(approx 10 degrees, which is logical as the gain is higher) wheter or not this is noticable is debateble.
My advice in 9 out of 10 cases would be to go for the 3el.

In aspect to the sirio versus maco.
Well, from a electrical point of view they are rather similair (gain/fb/fr)
(confirmed by eznec)
So what it migth come down to would be the mechanical side.
Both seem to have about similair element diameters..perhaps the maco has a slighlty "bigger" boom though.
And both are not fair when it comes down to gain figures.
Guess that makes them similair as well ?

Well, i like the maco for providing different element lengths for different frequencies.

Rather difficult to pick one,
Am i missing something ?...thougth there would be more difference ?

So,I would go for the one who was most convient to get.
If the "neighbour" sold the sirio im fine with that.
If it was a maco ...no harm done either :)

Hope it was of help.

which one?

Hi Guy's

I to am looking into getting a beam
the thing is im wondering which one is better for a smaller place?
I live in the uk and space is a premium unless your a land owner!
Im after a beam thats not to large but will perform well between 25 to 30 mghz?
Any views ideas are welcome.

I cant say anything about the Sirio beam antenna, but Ive ran a M103C beam in the past and it talk really well for me....in which I just ran it 27ft off the ground at the time...

It has a 11db gain, they say and it has a 11.5ft boom....
Think the longest element is 19ft...

I have a freind on another forum who runs one of these beams and he also has a Imax 2k, mount over top it and says his swr is good...
