Wow the last 2 days the band has been dead but tonight all hell has broken loose. We must have had a solar flare the past couple of days.

Go to www.spaceweather.com and you will see that the solar activity is down. This site gives the solar flux index The site calls it 'The Radio Sun'. While propagation isn't determined by just one factor, the solar flux is one of the major thing to look at.

What you're probably witnessing is a sporatic E opening. Maybe.

We got slammed by a double CME event a few days ago. That is what has upset things. On the other hand, there have been a couple good nights for an aurora display or for 2m/6m aurora DXing.

Lots of activity here in Washington today - I talked with several stations from Ontario, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Alberta.
Montana was very strong in here also - lots of stations. Then a few from N. Carolina and Alabama. Then early afternoon Hawaii was drifting in and out.

But as of now (7:17pm) on the coast, all is quite......

There is also a great app. called 3D sun. It's got information from NASA's heliophysics lab. I have the iPad version, but I think they have a droid version too.

Field Day weekend

so that means strms and lighting,hehe...every year...will be on 10mtrs and 75mtrs at night,we are just going to have fun,not compete...and will be inside this year,will be active unless lighting in my area.Its has been a bad dx week with a few large flares,and some Spordic-E in the evening...73 de JW
