Ok this one is good for a laugh.I was poking around qrz the other day and someone listed a excellent condition hr2510 and was asking 300 dollars.First he emails me a description.
Echo Board Talk Back Speaker Removed *tons of xtras*
Then come the pictures and the volume knob wasnt even the volume knob lol....

I wouldnt give him 50 cents thing was butchered to bits.

A Few of the 2510 exhibited this trait, but it was not that common, I bought two new in the box with no talk-back.....it was an anomaly that showed up from time to time.

I didn't know it was uncommon. I've owned 4 of them and they have all had talkback.

I think as production models progressed the issue seemed to go away, Two I got New from AES when they were selling them, My 2600 and both of my Lincolns never showed that trait.
Out of a 2 dozen or so that I have had my hands on, 2 had the problem.
Rogerbird has a easy fix on his site that uses a Diode from the Audio IC to the switching transistor to make sure the RX is cut off in TX mode.
They are good little radios, but no way would I pay $300 bucks for one used.
The last Lincoln I bought new was converted, aligned, had up graded NB diodes, Up graded AM detector diodes, a Channel Guard Filter installed and a couple of tweaks to the RX circuity all done By John Mahony At Panther Electronics and it was less than $360 Shipped.
Used ones should go for the $125-$150 range......
Some people think they are plated in Gold, but they are 1988 technology in all reality.
For that amount of money you can get a 2950DX and get more features and frequency coverage than the 2510 has to offer.

I looked into this and it seems like a lot of Mk1 Lincolns in the UK suffered with the talkback issue.

Mk2 had it sorted, at the factory.

Its hard to put values on gear that is so old, especially iconic gear (well it is in the UK.) like the Lincoln.

I think $150 ish is a good price to pay for a mint condition radio.

But here's the hook - I own a Boxed Lincoln, which is pretty much new in the box. Its untouched and unmarked in every way - I could never replace it - so how much is that worth?

Well the answer is that if i was offered less than $400 for it i would be offended, so it's easier to simply sit on it and look at it every now and then!

I bought a nearly new Armani shirt from a Charity shop once for $5 and I dont wear it because its too good to wear apart from at special events - instead I wear shirts which much more and dont give them a second thought!

Thanks

Mike
