I was under the impression it was aligned and tune by a tech, thats not what im getting. Just a factory refurbished with 2 year warranty. How much am i looking at and where can i get it fixed up a little? I was told there is a local guy here in buffalo that was real good."one of the best" any other suggestions? I will be getting a 150w linear soon, was told the radio will need to be made adjustable wattage for that? and have a horizontal 1/2 wave dipole. Any suggestions are welcome

959 already has variable power on it. Carry it to your tech to check the alignment and tell him to set the dead key at 1 watt when the variable is turned to it's lowest setting.
Pill amps don't play well with dead key much over 2 watts, they will let all of the magic smoke out if you continually key them at a higher wattage from your radio.

Ih they do have variable wattage output? What to they go from stock 2-4? And what will burn out , the linear if its putting more than 1 into it? If i understand that correctly?

To bad you were not in my area I did one of those up for a truck driver friend a few years back and that little thing rocked. I was seriously surprised at that radio and had fun setting that thing up. Im actually considering buying one for myself and Im really not a CB fan as far as this new stuff goes but I am impressed with those 959 and the 2547 base radios I am actually going to look at Ebay tonight for one or the other.

I will tell you that the radio you have will definately have to be allingned but you will be very happy with that radio Im sure ;)

I don't think you screwed up. A tech had to look over that radio completely and then repair it before they can call it 'refurbed'. So, it should be OK. So long as they warranty it at all, it should be OK.

The 959 can be Modded to do quite a few cool tricks such as dual finals, channels, clarifier mod, ect ect.... Its bascially a Galaxy export but a mellowed out legal version.

I had one to play with. Good on AM but drift like a mother on SSB.

Update, i was able to cancel the order and found another one, a dx 949 with the early dual mosfets, and it will be tuned and aligned. Its from a guy on ebay. He has 1500 or so good reviews on his radios. He takes a factory refurb and peaks and aligns it.

I have a DX949 on a 102" whip and get great reports from the locals. The only thing I didn't like about was the built in speaker but an external speaker fixed that.

I bought a refurbished Galaxy, did some mods like dual mosfets and it has been getting abused in my pickup for the last 5 years now. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another refurbished radio!
