Soldering Iron recommendation?

Looking to do the power wire upgrade to my TS500 and to my recently acquired TS Sweet Sixteen but my junker “gun” style soldering iron isn’t going to cut it.

Any recommendations on what to get? I’m assuming something around 60w with a variable setting and changeable tips.

It’ll take a good sized iron to change the power leads. I don’t think 60w would be enough.

100w American Beauty would do the trick quite nicely for the power leads.

Not cheap, but you’ll have it forever.

Is that Chapstick for soothing the burns after you kiss your American beauty?

I've used this one for a few years and has worked really well. Heats really quick and doesn't lose heat when working on larger projects. Hakko fx 888D. I wish they had of went with different styling but aside from that it works really well

LOL, it sure does get hot. I wouldn't want to drop it in my lap. You can feel the radiated heat coming off of it. It makes short order on various projects. Only thing that bugs me is it's not balanced. It can be awkward to hold.

I bought the Weller 80w a while ago to replace the transistors in my amp. Great for soldering lugs on big cable.

You will want some kind of variable control to control the temperature of any iron you get. The Weller will do about 900 degrees and will fry the heck out of some solder.
