Someone Is Getting A New Toy - RCI-2985DX

The RCI-2985dx was a day late, thank you not at all USPS, you lazy overpaid clods.

Even without their help, the radio is set up, working and duhhhh, what do I do next. There is a lot to learn here. 15 buttons, 9 knobs, 2 meters and an LCD panel to tell me what it's doing. It's got a 6 digit frequency counter and channels I never heard of. It's a thing of beauty. :D

My first contact was 350 Georgia. He got stepped on by 456 New Zealand who was sitting right here beside me it seemed like. Compared to the Uniden 980ssb,....... There is no comparison. I thought that little dinky mobile did pretty good, but when it comes to RX, it was lacking 4 or 5 transistors or something. The 2985 just sucks them in out of the air when with that other radio I never knew they were out there at all. People think CB has died. No, it's the radios that have died. ;)

No offense.

That makes me want to get one! I like good receive without the noise.

I can't say there isn't noise, there is, it's part of radio, But understand, with the Uniden, I could hear and talk to maybe 4 people in my whole town, locals, and only on channel 3 am. And they had amps. I just fell into the old belief that CB dies in the 90's and there just were not many people on anymore.

Well, the little mobile sure backed that up. It was easy to believe. So imagine my surprise when I turned on the 2985dx, which happened to be set at Ch 20am and I could hear three or four distant people talking on it. Clear but distant. So I turned around the dial and there were people everywhere on AM and then I tried upper and lower side band and it was the same.

Same dipole antenna, same coax and jumpers, same meters. The only difference was the radio. Needless to say, I am very happy with Ranger, my dipole and how it is all working. If I had stayed with the little mobile, nice radio or not, I would have lost interest in the hobby within the year.

Let me put it this way about the noise. Before, 90% of the noise was static. Now 80% of the noise is people talking. ;)

It's the same front panel and handles, knobs are about the same but in different positions. Yours is more than $100 more, but mine is only new in the box. I also got all channels for 10, 11 and 12 meter. I'd say it will be worth it if you get the 11 meters. You'll still need an amp though. 40W probably isn't enough.
