My phone just rang, one of those "Spam Risk" calls. I was curious and looked before clearing the notification and the number looked familiar. Reminds me of the days you could press *#9 something something something # on a Nokia and change the number that appeared on the recipients caller ID.

The 111111111111111111 station was loud today on 38lsb.
Today and every day for almost a year now. Anytime skip comes in from Texas that station is there going non-stop 24/7/365.
Wait until you get a call from your OWN number
I've had that happen. The spammers also like to 'spoof' other local numbers here.
Worse yet, I once had my old Yahoo email hacked and started getting Viagra spam from myself ! Needless to say, I switched to Gmail and never looked back !

I like to play with those guys. I figure every second on I'm on the phone with them is a second they're not scamming someone.

And oh boy do they get pissed when they figure out I'm wasting their time. :giggle:
I do the same thing. I try to keep them going for as long as I can. My record so far is 52 minutes! Sometimes I can even con them into telling me about their kids and stuff. It's great!

In a more serious note, my wife knows a older lady (72) that got caught up in the Publishers Clearing House scam.
She came over to visit and tell us she got a call telling her she was going to get $5000 a month for life and her new BMW was going to be delivered next week.
Unfortunately she gave them her account information to pay the $500 delivery fee for the car.
She sent them her SS number and a photo of her drivers license to " verify " her identity for security purposes.
We tried hard to convince her to put a hold on her account and contact the Sheriff but she said she was going to put her trust in God to watch over her.
They cleaned out her account.
If you have elderly relatives you should warn them about this stuff.......

When I decide to answer unknown numbers, I hit the mute button as fast as it lets me and just listen. They don't know if it is a machine or a dead line but it seems to cut down on the calls I get. I fear once they hear a real person, it don't matter if they get you or not, they will sell your number to the next scammer.
