well on my dentron meter the galaxy doesnt show any more than 15 on sideband. does the 3900 have the same output final?Carl said:
should be, the radios are basicaly the same mainboard with a different face. rci produces nearly all exports mainboards (except for the strykers and magnums). this is why i chuckle when people say a certon radio is better than another. the big differences in them is the main board revisions.
the newest galaxy dx radio's and new ranger f series are different finally, but give it time and you will see other pop up again. most of the older radio deigns still in production use the good old 3600xxx mainboard. just like the new superstars and connex radios.

your galaxy is a 2547 right? thats a single final radio (you can make them a duel final pretty easy. the 3900 gold's are a duel final (at least the brand new ones are) so yo will gain some power, 25 watts on ssb and 5-9 watts on am.
what are you trying to drive? most solid state amps need a much lower drive, say 1-3 watts unless they are using a 2879 transistor, they can handle a bit more, say under 20. older tube amps dont like alot of drive either, that Courier is a great driver for a larger amp, they do about 125 or so peak

Ive been told my courier could take a little more drive. The guy who sold it to me said if i drove it a little harder i could maybe see 160 or 180 out of it. Just so you know Its a COMPLETELY worked over Bl-100 Plate voltage JACKED up to like 8-900 as opposed to the 650-750 it is stock. And mine is a pretty much SSB only box. AM KIlls the tubes and on Am it only does like 40 watts. probably being over driven but whatever. How do you convert the galaxy to dual finals Id love to make it have more output. WEll its lunch time here in highschool so 73's all
