wanting to upgrade the mobile, (Cobra 29) looking at president or Galaxy, need SSB and be able to cover 11 meters with at least 40 below and 40 above , not interested in big money radio for my work truck, just something to keep me entertained in my short trips around my county , most of what I find in my price range either doesn't have SSB or doesn't do expanded frequency,
Thanks,
2ET703 Operator Christopher

did enough research to see what I want is not available with the budget I have unless I get lucky on something used, will hold off a bit to see if something comes up used , most likely will just go with a SSB 40 channel CB and not worry about extra channels, was comparing the Galaxy 759 and 979, president McKinney, and uniden 980, any feedback on these ? all are in my price range

The disdain comes from the fact that 99% of them are crap, they are made for the 11 meter market no matter what is on the box. For what you pay for some of them you could easily get a used ham rig that will run circles around an export.
People buy them because they want the screaming AM splatter audio and the ego stroking bling they have.

A Lincoln might run you past $300 with shipping, tax, etc.

I’d push the number to expecting to spend $400.
I agree, it’s hard to buy a used Hf rig for $300 ,unless your buying it in person at a ham fest or something. And even then it’s pretty slim pickings right at $300. But once you get into the $450 price range you can buy a good used Hf rig.

About 4 years ago I bought locally a yaesu 757gxii with the matching power supply for $350. I thought that was a good deal, my dad uses it at his house ,on the Hf bands.
