Ranger who builds Galaxy radios does not build Strykers. Stryker has a few model radios and some are built by one manufacturer and others buy another. You cannot go wrong with a 955HPC.

Agreed. Don't forget, most Stryker radios have way better transmit audio quality than any of the RCI, Ranger, Galaxy, General, ect ect ect. So spend a few extra dineros and get a Stryker 955 or an older 490 or 497 with the real Toshiba 2290's in there.

Not sayin' I don't do the Galaxy stuff from time to time

If you want ssb Stryker is the way to go. My 955hp is one of my best radios.
I agree, I have three of them, and I love them all. I am selling one, but only because I kind of have to right now and I can't talk on three radios at once. BUT I am still keeping my main 955, and my back up 955.

What is the Band coverage or frequency coverege o these new Strykers?? Will the cover 10-12 Meters? Or is it the typical export 10-11

My 955's coarse clarifier jumps around in vfo mode. It can be almost impossible to get on freq sometimes, and it makes me very angry. The channel selector is pretty bad too, turn it too slow, and it will go backwards. I usually turn it fast until I get close, then bump it a few times to got the channel I want. Other than that, the radio is great.

I have a 655. The few extra bucks you will pay over another brand with similar features is well worth it. Communicating with customer service (if you ever even have to) can be time consuming but any issues you might have will be resolved to your satisfaction.

the 955's are dressed up cre's. alphamaxes etc. same mainboard

I think not...

I disagree Carl, I have had and used all the others and I kept the Stryker 955 just because it works so well. It's on frequency cold or hot, can do anything and with the VFO option it's so easy to change bands to go to the Freeband. The Stryker is as good as the older ass kicker radios like the Cobra side mic, etc, it can even hold be compared to some Ham equipment but 300 or less for the same features. Just my opinion, I use an old Yaesu 101E and a Yaesu FT-840 but like the receive on the Stryker 955 better
