So i went to use my 2950dx after the storm and noticed my swr up a bit.Wiggled my coax and it wore out the pl259 on the antenna end when i move the wire the signal drops on the radio. Not only that but on the lower frequencys below 11 meters 40 sideband my ssb signal doesnt swing full power like the problems i had in the past.Another issue i noticed if i whistle into the mic i hear a hum.Very weird im hopeing the coax is the issue.

Maybe but i will find out tomorrow i will be replacing my coax with lmr400.The coax i had was like new only 2 months old shireen heavy duty but i think the storm got to it.

Dont foget to use dialectric grease on all the connections outside the shack..IMHO

If it was installed properly it should survive a cat 5 hurricane unless something falls on it and rips it apart. The fact you said " it wore out the pl259 on the antenna end" tells me it was not installed/secured properly.

sounds like the braid wasn't soldered and the wind motion moving the coax has damaged some/all of the centre conductor.

soldering the braid gives a sound mechanical as well as electrical connection.

hooked up

hooked up the new lmr400 damn rings on the antron moved but my swr on channel 1 is 1.3 channel 19 1.1 channel 40 1.2 and up to 5550 1.3 if i got below 279650 much the swr climbs to 1.5 and into 28mhz it hits 1.5 so i think my swr is good and no hum when i whistle into the mic only when i go below channel 40 and my meter swings like it should on sideband on the lower channels.I think that it was a bad solder job on the old wire it was that chinese shireen cable it was good in the begining but then it kinda weakened.
