OK, got a reply from Simonthewizard and he claims it is for freq. conversion but when I flip it, I see no change. Maybe I have to shut rig off, flip switch then turn back on. Have not tried yet. Or maybe the was a jumper or solder bridge removed also beforehand that made the switch operational? I found another Superstar/Dirland on eBay from France that has same switch inside but I am not ready for another headache just yet! LOL

Pretty sure you'll find "EPT360010" on the main pcb somewhere. The large counter module suggests it was built before about 1995. Pretty sure that's when they changed to the smaller counter module.

The slide switch was to cripple the radio so it could be imported as a "10-meter ham" radio without legal disputes about a non-legal CB. Once it was in the recipient's country, you flip the switch to un-cripple the band selector. Seems to me the "Dirland" radios came through Canada, mostly.

Just another RCI-built product, pretty much like several other name brands supplied by the same vendor that year.

Dirland is from France, pretty sure.

Thanks nomadradio. Indeed that switch does disable the band selector switch. It did not at first but after I removed that chit added breadboard mod, works like it should now. Actually, this rig has the EPT360014B as the main board. And yes, looks exactly like any RCI built internals. Still trying to figure out why no output power yet...

How about the factory installed switch... any ideas any one? I have seen said switch in pics of other Dirland and Superstar exports. Has 3 wires, some got to band switch. View attachment 20637 View attachment 20638

it changes the rig to a 40 ch one so it can be sold in the UK....Knights do it, then you open it up and flick the switch to get all six bands...

This is an old thread, but that radio is a clone of the Galaxy Pluto. Everything is the same except for the name on the faceplate and the switch for the conversion.
