Is external power required for the CN-801 meters to operate, or is it only required for the lighted display?

NANO VNA, Sitemaster Anritsu, Bird 43, cheap rusty cb tester thing and built in SWR on the president and Stryker.

A few years ago, I converted my trusty Drake W4 wattmeter to true peak reading using the info on these two sites:



Simple circuit to build. Works great. Powered by 12vdc/1amp wallwart.

To expand its usefulness Drake provides a chart for using forward and reflected power to calculate SWR.

The peak reading conversion turned this quality instrument into a meter as good or better than anything out there. Fun project too.
