SWR, which one to believe?

I stand corrected on my statement but I do agree on the error of checking SWR in SSB mode, it is possible the meter cannot keep up with the varying changes of the mode or it is possible there may be something of a problem with the mode.... faulty component perhaps?
SWR is a good check of the antenna's performance at frequency used and how well it is loaded by the rig (transmitter). My MFJ analyser emits a small carrier, enough to key the local two meter repeater. It is low power, very small in the mili-Watt range. I use several different meters, from a Kenwood SW-2000 to an old but good Vanco. I also have a Bird Watt meter, not sure if it can be used as an SWR meter with the charts supplied in the manual.
BTW, where can I find an Autek?

I have several Autek WM-1 meters, they are very susceptible to any CMC or RFI.

I have had to change jumpers before to get mine to stop acting funny on SSB IE the high VSWR being displayed in SSB mode but worked great in AM mode.

I have also noticed that if there are ANY high powered transmitters in your local area the AUTEK will display an incorrect VSWR when those transmitters are in use.
The meter is very sensitive and usually very accurate.

The only problem I can see with the Autek meter is that the mechanical zero is off on both meters. I have never even heard of somebody checking SWR on SSB. I normally turn the power down on any radio while I'm tuning the antennas. There is less chance of damage to the finals if it takes a little longer than normal for tuning. Most often I use a junker radio to test and tune. Checking the SWR on SSB is possible if you have a dual tone signal generator modulating the radio. But I have not heard of anyone doing that either,
I'm a little late with this but the mechanical zero adjustment screws are clearly visible in one of the posts earlier.
