Is it possible to do? I like the touch of echo, but I want to actually have my audio up without the feedback from the talkback feature. I'd like to put a switch on it so I can have it work when adjusting echo but off for normal operation. Is this possible? Any help on which resistor it is they use to do this?

What radio is it installed into? Most radios have a separate circuit for talkback depending on which radio we're referring to.

There is a tiny trimpot inside the mike that serves to set the talkback volume. If it won't turn down far enough, removing it will remove the talkback in a radio that requires a mike to get receiver audio.

This feature only works on a radio that requires the mike to be plugged in to get receiver audio.

A radio that will receive without a mike plugged in requires different measures to obtain talkback.

Hes talking about an internal echo board, not a mic.

Sorry I can't be of any necessarily specific help, but on most of the Galaxy/Ranger chassis with Internal Echo Board - there is a long single wire coming off the board, some chassis it will be a Blue or Green or White colored wire, that is part of the TalkBack circuit. Cut that wire - lengthen the wires and route to a Switch on the back of the radio so you can use TB when you want. Easy enough to experiment. Locate such a wire, cut it and see what happens. If TB disappears .... you found it. If not, reconnect it and move on.

It is in a Cobra 25 NW ST
I think nomad thought you were talking about the EC-2018 microphone.

So when your echo board was installed talkback was added to that radio and that's where you need to make an adjustment. I'm willing to bet in your case it's a resistor across the pa & speaker jack which you'll need to change. The problem with that kind of talkback mod is that it's not a one size fits all type of mod. All microphones will behave differently with that mod, and in your case factoring in the echo board as well, going even further is the limiter in the radio still intact. That particular eb-2015 echo board has a gain adjustment as well which out of the box I've found to be turned up too high in my installations. You could start there, maybe it's a little hot and could create your issue as well. Play with the resistor for the talkback. I hope that helps, maybe I might have just rambled

You know, I don't remember if I added on in or not now that you mention it.. maybe I did! losing my mind.... I'll have to check that...

this is what I put in:

OK, that makes me think of another issue I may be facing in the other radio I put one in. I put one of those in my DX939, and normally I can have my Silver Eagle and mic gain pretty strong, but then I have to almost neuter the mic gain to about the 1/3 mark when I turn on the Super Star 400. Am I chasing ghosts or is there a chance that is related? Normally D104 is 2/3 on gain, radio mic gain maxed (I keep talkback off once echo is set).

No ghosts, makes sense. If you're especially installing in a rig that's already been peaked. I'm betting you're going to have to go in and set it to what microphone you will be using most as they all have different characteristics. That eb-2015 boards gain control comes turned way too high for most radios right out of the box. The LT-2N (totally different board) on the other hand I usually never have to touch the gain control.

I'll keep that in mind next time I get one - get the LT-2N!

I had the one in the DX939 in my baby Uniden (Pro520XL) and cranked the gain to barely hear - that's when I found out that it has the high impedance mic system, so I threw it in the Galaxy for kicks. No idea where I have it set now, but I know I turned it down.
