It works for the single-ended driver and final transistor in the radio. Yes, the radios use a diode to stabilize the bias for temperature rise. Yes, TS should but that's the only difference.

But the radio circuit isn't designed as a push/pull, is it?

TS uses the same transformer circuit for the single transistor as it does for the two transistor setup, does it not?

I'm looking for knowledge here, not questioning you. I'm just going off observation and the fact that TS never put SSB in any of their single transistor amps. Not even the DX111V, and that was in the 250/350 case.

It was just a delay. If you look at the schematic there was no bias to the base in the DX65.

Not a big deal if you have a Ferrite Bead and a Diode - strapped across R7 can do wonders...Band to Ground.

VERY similar to EN369 units... or the 1230 one especially...

I’m just referring to the amp having an “SSB” button on the front, not saying they did it right.

I actually had the idea in my head that the DX100 had bias as well...but haven’t looked.

It actually stands to reason they don’t include SSB on drivers. It’s got to be a remarkably small market. The only amp they have that may need a driver is the DX1600, and so many SSBers are running 100w ham rigs anyway. It’d be a waste to exhaust much effort into such a design.

In all truth a DX1600 sounds mighty nice and performs well with way under 100w drive.

I suppose back when the dx3200 was made, there'd be a need. But that could be done with a 250.

So. If I want to run my KL203 in AM and then into the straight 4 pill as a driver for AM. They would be doable. As long as I keep my AM dk say at 20w with the 203 on, and maybe swing to 1:4 to 60-80w to drive the 4 pill.

I don't see me doing it, but good to know as an option.

1:4 into your new amp will probably not give you anything near 1:4 output, especially at those levels.

Or at least I can say, it’s never worked out that way for me with any CB amp.

More linear with less drive, is what I tend to see. I would expect 20-80W to be well past any linearity that amp can offer. I’d imagine the output would be 1 to 1-point-something.

Your radio would need to key 1/2 watt so the 203 would key 5 watt so the four pill would key 150 watts. Or something like that.

200w is crazy, IMO.

I went back and watched what he did with the biased version. He put a Stryker 955 into it on SSB.

While not showing the radio output, I’d assume it’s close to his AM output of 80w. I believe that showed 900w from the amp, presumably at 15v.

Thats bumping the limits(or passing them) as far as I am concerned.

I wouldn’t expect a long and healthy life at 80w in. I’d expect it to blow instantly at 200. If it survives, then you have made a nice YouTube video.

With the levels CBers tend to run into amps, it’s not at all hard to reach a point where a 200% increase in input yields a 10% increase in output.

That’s what is often happening when folks drive their stuff to the max and beyond.
