The sorry state of the American people now

that's why i removed my child from the public school system. family time is actually still playing board games, fishing, shooting together. We still eat together at the table without the tv playing.

I'll admit I wasn't a candidate for a remake of "Father Knows Best"; but for a single parent, & sole provider, for five years I did OK. I corrected my kids when we were a complete family, but after I evicted/divorced their trashy mom... my problem was in saying NO when it really needed saying. Just couldn't make myself do it. Worked ungodly hours & overtime during that phase of my life, for them. Spoiled? Hel yeah, now they are too good for me, not a call, not a email nor letter in years.
Fabulous examples of their generation, & its partially my fault.

If I had advice for a young parent, it would be to learn to say NO and stick with it! They'll learn to respect you, themselves, and others.

(Trace source back to bucket seats, lol. When the world was traveled by bench seats, you KNEW when the relationship was slipping. An overly large air cooled resistor space between the coupling.)

Please tell me you do take them out into the real world so they are exposed to what it is really like.

I know some people who have a 17 year old daughter who they have coddled to the point of sheltering her from reality. She is also home schooled so she has no exposure to the outside world. (HOME SCHOOLING IS GREAT, DON'T GET ME WRONG) But the girl is in for a hard slap in the face if and when she ever goes out into the real world and tries to start her own life.

Not saying this is what you are doing RF, but there are plenty out there who are.

Speaking of living in the real world I am reminded about some people I know that have raised their kids so that they hardly understand what death is.Their pets always "ran away to a nice farm". :headbang Forget all about explaining about death when a close family member dies. One of the worse things you can do when trying to explain death is equate it to going to sleep and never waking up. Man, talk about giving your kids nightmares. When my kids were barely three years old my mother inlaw passed away. We tried to explain it as best we could then. A few years later a close family friend passed aqway and we took the kids to the funeral home for visitation but not the service. Some people were appaled that we would take a 6 or 7 year old there. We explained exactly what it would be like and they were fine. The wife of the departed was really pleased we took the kids and that was all that mattered.A few years ago we took them to their first funeral. My uncle passed away after a short bout with cancer and he loved the kids so it was only fitting they go. I want my kids to taste the real world not some sheltered shell that we try and pass off as the real thing.
