Thinking of ditching the HF antenna tuner.. doing a fan dipole??

I can't do 80m. I don't have the room...
Gonna have a hard time getting the 66' or so for the 40m length..

Saving grace is tree is in back rear corner and maybe I can put up a pole on the front of the house which luckily is a 72' long mobile.

Consider a linear loaded di-pole, a 40 meter one in about 40 feet long overall,... an 80 meter one is about 66 feet long.

I'm guessing direct resonance is better than tuning it with the tuner to make up the difference..

Any one got pics of there's??

And is the whopping 10cm that was quoted for spacing enough?? That's like 2" I believe..

I was thinking more like 4" or so..

10cm IS 4 inches. That's OK but the further apart the better. A couple feet would be much better and have slightly less interaction.

I put my legs a foot apart, seemed to work ok.
160/80/40/20 fan dipole and they do work OK little narrow banded, pain in the backside to tune, the effort is worth it if you want multi band one feedline no tuner.

I am currently using 75meter doublet ladderline fed and tuner, I can not really tell the difference between the fan dipole and the doublet, although theory says the doublet will have some nulls on the higher bands.

Sure you can. I know you said no ladder line but maybe this will help someone someday. A short doublet will work better than most other compromises. Mine is around 68 feet from end to end the signal reports aren't far behind locals with half wave cowaxe fed dipoles. Since I can get it up in the clear it works better than the full size antennas that are down in the bushes or zig zagged around the yard. Less rfi issues too.

Everything has to be able to carry a lot of current without overheating. The ladder line and part of the antenna is made from #8 thhn and the rest of the antenna is #10. The tuner to handle that has to be built. There is nothing on the market that is up to the task. I run legal limit AM through mine so yours may not need to be as robust.

My max height on the house side is only going to be about 19' in the air, then the dipole or fan dipole will go up to about 27' in the tree on other end.. I have about 70' to do it..

Wish I had no HOA rules to deal with..

I do have 3 100' spools of 12thhn wire here to play with..
