This is why using punctuation is nice.

Proper is almost too much to ask for in this day and age where kids are not taught it in school however a little attempt at separating sentences would be nice. I graduated high school in 1981 and back then we actually were taught and tested on the proper use of grammar and spelling. Today the attitude is "why bother? Everyone has a spellchecker in their PC/smart phone anyway and they will eventually learn the right way on their own". That idea still has not proved itself out yet after all these years. I am not perfect but at least I make a concerted effort to use proper grammar and spelling. My biggest downfall is my typing skills especially when on my smartphone. I miss a lot of capital letters. There are times when reading some posts you would think I was a product of today's generation.

CK, my son is going to be turning 17 this summer and I've just learned that they (public schools in the US) don't even teach things like diagramming sentences anymore. It's no wonder these kids haven't any concept of grammar, sentence structure, or punctuation.

I've actually had to partially home-school my children to pick up the slack.

I agree, this is one of the reasons we send our son to private school.

PS We are not rich, I drive a 12 year old car and my wifes "new" car is 10 years old, we live in an house we can actually afford on one salary and every extra penny goes to my son education. T
