TM86 new shack/shop.

Another small piece. This wood box wasn't needed for what it came with. I claimed it rather than let it go to the landfill. It's holding loose microphones until I can think of a better use for it. 8E03996E-D28C-4ADE-88CB-9D76CE44E616.jpeg

Hoping to get started on building a real workbench soon.

One part of the workbench top. Outline for the frame is done. Adding some supports for the top and a lower shelf tomorrow. The workbench is coming together. Hoping to have it done and be in the guts of a radio by Sunday.

Bench still the same 13 ft long 30 inches deep...need to take some new pics as some equipment changes since I took this one. The bottom level pretty much the same but the upper 2 levels completely different now.

Okay, I’ll bite.
How does one take a black and white photo with a splash of color in the middle? o_O

Definitely go Two level "topper"...build for Future...you won't regret later!!!(y)

Agreed for several reasons.

One prominent is that it’s easy to attach a backing (Masonite) and keep household walls away from damage

That same backing can extend below desktop to accommodate what shelving or cable runs may be placed there.

There is eventually a reason to pull any furniture away from the wall. Shelf-backer makes it a clean proposition.

I’ve brought this up before (for anyone):

I prefer cantilevered desks/work benches. Sturdier, use less space with more tabletop, and any sort of shelving can be done. Change shelves at will if free-standing.

A good example with great pics: (not a link)

Instructables: Simple, Rock-Solid Cantilever Desk in Ten Steps.

Have done several over the years, house & garage (more HD than shown; easy to reinforce). Rebuilt a big block on one of them.

Backing against wall on furring strips can be all sorts of types behind moveable shelf units. Easy to build power and coax runs. Ground system below. Etc.

And

No table legs to constantly be in the way. No impediments to cleaning floor. Roll your chair anywhere.

The surprisingly few holes into walls (studs) make it an easy conversion back to original.

This little guy arrived a week late:

Worth the wait, though. Led me to a broken mike wire between the element and the switch. Then, with a working mike, I was able to track down a bad solder joint in a radio. Radio still needs work, but I'm going to call the bench operational now.

Yes, I should have been able to find the broken wire without the tester. Until I got it I was too lazy to crack the mike and take a look.
