TRC-458, low on power after mods done...

I totally agree... but it's not a huge deal normally... esp in the CB world

True, some like a 1 watt dead key and swing to who knows what, sound like sh*t on the air but they are sure happy watching that meter swing.

lol, no kidding on that... I have people ask me to set up their radios to do that... I always tell them if the want that they need to buy a side band radio... then some other people seem to want AM with a huge dead key, and then they sound quiet because the final has no more headroom left to swing...

most CBers tend to take things to extremes one way or the other

I knew one guy that had a Cobra 29 LTD Classic and this fool spent a boat load of cash having an IRF540, yes and IRF540, not the 520, installed and it was setup with a 1/2 watt dead key and would swing to like 40 or 50 watt peak... he thought it was awesome, but it sounded terrible on the air... it may have even been less than 1/2 watt cause as I recall he could not even key up an AMP...

well there is more to this than I thought... the final is dead... it didn;t just die... it went dead, then worked, then went dead, then worked... now it's dead

Did you get the final replaced? I have a Washington that will do no more than 11 watts PEP, haven't found out why either. I'll be starting a new thread for it.

I suspect it too... I have found a few other version of the broad band L37 mod and they DO NOT include the .05uf cap
I seen the mod with the cap.
Anyone know why?
