Yeah, just tie the two leads going to the potentiometer together as mentioned. Really not a problem if you leave it set wide open though. 75W out of that guy is what I would expect out of it to have a "reasonably" clean signal.
Reasonably.... and that is saying it nicely. Remember this is a *single ended* not "push pull" type amplifier that has the base of the transistor tied to ground, which means it is class C. Great for "swing" and making the meter dance around. That is what it was designed to do... the guy who designed it knew better and knew it was a bad design, but also knew what the CB guys want and how to inflate a bank account. (so did Elkin that did the same thing with their tube amps, loose bias supply, etc)
Got to agree with Radio Guy on this one, the mod and mod v were never meant to be linear.
There is no "swing kit" for the amp you are asking about, nothing on the internet with 4 wires you can solder to the board.
It does what it was built to do....if that is not working for you, then rather than start re-building it, just sell it and buy what you need.
That amp is very popular with the cb crowd, easy to get your $$ back.
What is it you have that needs a very low carrier and huge peak input?
Try to have just a little patience, everyone here enjoys playing radio and share/help others, but we have lives ( most of us anyway) outside of our radio hobby.
Some do not get on the forum everyday.

If you have a uniden 980, I believe that is the SSB model. It should be doing more than 6W. What meter are you using? Most radios are set up for a 3-4W carrier. That radio should be doing about 12w pep since it is a sideband rig.
Not going to happen. If you turn the variable down the key will drop as well as the swing.....I don't know how you could expect anything different.
The only way to get what you want is to put a variable key in the radio and turn the TS variable wide open......vary the key to get what you want and the swing should not drop.
It looks like that the 980 is anemic in the output department.
I do not have one, but it seems that they struggle to make more than 15 or 16 watts on a bird with a peak kit.

The Mod V is awful on SSB.
Guys will put a cap across the relay and try to use them, but if you have ever heard one of them on SSB you will never forget the way it sounds.
If you intend to use the radio/amp on SSB I suggest you skip the mod v.
What kind of amp is it?

Uniden has seen better days and running a Texas Star Mod V on ssb is too funny for words. A one pill class c amp on ssb just isn't going to make anyone happy. It could be worse and a ssb delay could be put in this heap. The American flag needs to be peeled off that junk.
