Turner +2 Desk Mic How Do They Sound

......
r1.jpg
Dayum!,.................... red and green D 104's,.....
are you in the Navy?

I don't know why, but when i first noticed the personalization of your
d104's I emidietly thought you may have been into skateboarding. Back in the day Powell perallta, kryptonic and many co's. producing skating equipment went through these types of color schemes and us that did skate offen painted other items like sneaker, pads and in tge case of a skating buddy his Chevy.

Anyway. I noticed what appears to be a firebird 500 sitting on your desk. I've got one that's not branded firebird. I don't recall the name printed on the front of the anp or if there's any name at all. It's been sitting in a box inside a closet for about 25 years.

I've seen many up for grabs on bidonbrokenstuffbay.

All designed the same with small differances in paint scheme and switch placement but for all intense and purpose obviously came from the same factory.
Some have fans. Most fans I've seen were obviously done by the owners or golden screwdriver types. Most are done to a poor standard. Some fans look very nice and may have been factory installed.

If my memories correct the one I own doesn't have a fan.

I also don't know which tubes are used. One driving three, that i do know.
Do you use it and if so can you tell me if your happy with it's performance?. P.s. i know this is an 11 meter amplifier and although some are better made than other'. In the end it is what it is and was just wondering wheather I should dig it for possible use or add it to the list of items I'm gonna be listing for sale or trade?
Hahaha...naaa. just a couple I rebuilt and painted John Deer green and Coca-Cola red with all the decals
Hell...My computer, radio, amp's, "Desk-Mic" printer, and computer speakers are all on the same desk, and nothing messes with the other...Even the TV is within 10' and no problems...

That one is actually labeled "Kicker 500", exactly the same tho as the Firebird...I've seen at least 4 different versions of it, and about the only difference in some of the other names, is some don't have the HI-LOW switch like the Kicker does. It uses 4 6JE6A-6LQ6 tubes (1x3) and with New tubes, mine would peak at little over 500w's on my Dosy... No fan, and I don't think any of these came from the factory with fans originally, so like you said, if you see one with a fan, it was added by some previous owner.

I like the Amp, I've got tons of complements over the air using it both on AM and SSB. The trick with these are, you need a radio that doesn't have a hole lot of swing... These were designed for radios back when most only had about a 12w swing...

It works great with my Cobra 2000 GTL, but when I tried to use it with my RCI 2980, it would cut out because the 2980 had too much swing (40+w) So they won't work with a dual final or larger radio.

Tubes are getting harder to find, and can cost anywhere from $35 to $75 for NOS/NIB...I replaced the ones in mine last year, and have a extra set, but they seem to last forever even without a fan.

Got this one off eBay from everyone's favorite ebay seller "superhawkwss6"...The guy is the biggest joke on ebay, but I managed to get a fairly decent price for the Amp from him. ($250) ...He did say it had New Tubes in it when I bought it...Only after I got it, I found out the so-called new tubes he was talking about, meant the tubes were new to the AMP...NOT New Tubes...One even had 30% written on it with a marks-a-lot...But it did work, and it was swinging around 350w's when I got it...over 500 with new tubes.

"superhawkwss6"
^^^that guy^^^ I see anything with yellow plexiglass under it and I can't click past it fast enough. Folks see his overpriced stuff and think they can list their stuff for the same crazy prices, but hey I understand, it's a free country.

The Tuner+2 is a great mic. I run one on my 955. I have found that no two same model mics sound the exactly same so If you don't get one that sounds good, don't give up and try another.

Yeah, he's defiantly one of eBay's biggest Con Artists. Can't believe anything he posts, everything he has listed says it's NIB/NOS, comes from his personal collection, and came out of a display case...so "buyer beware." But he will negotiate his listed prices if you call him up...Just don't expect what you get, to be as described.

Oh yea! Don't forget suppejackof's been a licensed dealer or every company that's every made whatever it is he sells for over 30 years.

Unfortunately the second +2 I own isn't wired for a madison. So I willll have it wiered soon. I hope it sounds as good as the others I've hrard on ssb. If not I will try the d104 head that I Will be replacing the crystal element with one of those w2nye eletret thingies. After that I'm gonns haxe to realize my d104 and voice carecteristics is the best it's evet gonna be.'{QUOTE="jessejamesdallas, post: 524469, member: 85"]Yeah, he's defiantly one of eBay's biggest Con Artists. Those w2nye thingy's are not bad...My Red D104 I installed one on it, and it doesn't have that tiny sound...Gives it a little more of a bassy sound... I also noticed that w2nye guy now has the elements for the Turner +3's now too...Not sure about the +2, but probably does.

You must've read my mind. Earlier I checked his item's for sale as he's always reinventing and building new electret's for mic's he hasn't made them for yet.
As of today there was no listings for a + 2 replacement. I purchesed the one for my silver eagle (pc 100) board but I have yet to install it.
If it doesn't change my audio characteristics for the better it's not a problem as I've atlest a dozen other d104 's and will just put another crytal head on the mic and leave the replacement installed to try on a different rig. I'm actually wondering why I'm so intent on trying to sound better (on ssb) as I get the greatest reports. What set me off on this seach was when a friend of mine who runs a cobra 2000 and d104. He's in Texas and sounds great sounds great . One day he switched from the d104 to a 10-da and it blew me away.
Ever since then I've been trying to get my Madison which is very similar to the 2000 to sound like his did with the 10-da. My 10-da sounded poor the + 3 also sounded poor. After trying the + 2 and the electrit I will give up and be content and satisfied that I tryed everything to get the best sounding ssb audio out of my madison. The thing is it may already be sounding the best it can or ever will. Short or adding a beringer or the like which I believe is going over "board" for a cb radio. No pun intended. I suspect that's why my + 3 sounds great on AM but like shit on ssb. I assume it's just my voice carectoristics. Radio tried on was my madison. My silver eagle sounds great on AM and ssb and its the mic I will use until I wire the + 2 for the madison and give it a go. I'm in no rush as I suspect I'll get the same results as I did with the + 2.
And we all have different voices so a mic that sounds great for one person may sound like doodoo for someone else. Just try it and see how it sounds with your voice.

I'm way ahead of you. I did bid on one. It sold for a price that was $40 less than I would've paid for it, but after realizing that my turner + 3 that sounds excellent on AM but like shit on ssb (uniden Madison).

I thought id try my + 2 which like the + 3 has a reputation for sounding very nice on ssb but have yet to wire it for my madison. It's currently wired for my fs23 and sounds excellent so I know it works.

I didn't want to purches the 1104c until I tried the + 2 first

I also own a 10-da and like the + 3 it just didn't sound like a 10-da should've on ssb.

I've yet to wire the + 2 in order to get some reports on ssb. I'm beginning to belive that my deep voice and heavy Brooklyn accent just isn't gonna make any mic specify intended for ssb sound anywhere near as good as my silver eagle's do, both on AM and ssb.

I often get unsaliseted ssb reports complimenting my audio while on my silver eagle. A California stationon on a yaesu used its sample recording without my knowledge and played it back it took me a few seconds to realize it was me and i was totally impressed with the quality of my audio

The + 2 is currently wired for a sonar fs23 and sounds excellent so I know it works.

When the + 2's wired for my madison I will start qso's with the ssb stations that know how I sound on my silver eagle. I will do this without mentioning I'm on a + 2.

If and I already suspect I get poor audio reports I'm gonna conclude that the carectoristics of my voice just "ain't" meant for anything but a d104 at least on ssb.

Just get an 1104c and be done with it. :)
