I know I touched on this briefly in thread but I'll take the time to be a little more specific.
The uBitix mainboard very nearly perfectly fits the HR chassis.
Oh my yes that is just the beginning.
Look at it this way, the HR at best is a 10, 11, 12m radio @ 40 watts (a bit less but ...)
It's 30 years old , the caps are dry, the display has de-laminated, the optical switch is failing, the switches are frozen on or off, and the glue is eating away at the components.
The uBitx although not without faults and gremlins is "new" , is DC to 30MHz , is up to 10 watts (more like 6-8) and $139.
The add on AGC is a necessity.
AM? This bunch has been direct injecting for decades.
FM? I don't see the point but clipping and limiting ahead of tuning (varactor) is easy. For receive just add a stand alone FM strip. (again I don't see the point, but...)
The Nextion display gives you a touch screen.
An NXP mrf101an gives you 100watts in a TO220 package @50v for $25
An NXP mrf300an gives you 300watts in a TO247-3 package @50v $25 +?
The mezzanine enclosure gives you a place to put an SDR receiver. (SDR Play?)
The board is short enough to allow placement of DC/DC converter(s) for 50v
The HR can be parted out to help finance the project .
A "start over" face will be needed. A little metal bending and drilling along with kidnapping the local 3D printer geek for a few hours should do it .
I already own a ft-857d So why would I ?
I could fix the 2510 but for how much?
I could build a uBitx into "any" case but ...
Hey it's the path less traveled and it's me .
