Uniden 980..... Best Sound Quality Mic?

The 577 and 2018 are good mics. I have both of them but don't care to use them mobile. Don't like how they feel or the knobs that are easily turned.

I was a bit worried about the ease of adjustment on the dials, but I'm going to try this mod.

I was considering the Road Devil, but I think that a power mic in conjuction with my RM KL 203P might be a little overkill, and may not sound too spiffy.

The 636 seems to work alright; no one has seen fit to tell me anything to the contrary.

I have found the Workman DM507 microphones work well with everything I have tried them on. I don't have a 980, but for any Cobra 148/Grant XL/Washington radio they have been as good as anything else.

Welp, lo and behold my guy couldn't get a 2018. I'm bidding on a mint '90s RK56 on eBay.

I can't speak to the 90's era Road King mics, but Road King, now, is owned by DAS Companies, who also owns Astatic, Francis, Wilson, and K40 (and some other random companies).

The primary function of DAS is to stock travel centers, such as Pilot, TA, Ambest, etc. Eventually, I will eliminate every DAS product from my radio setup, and replace it with something else. It just seems to me that quality is likely to be undercut by some bean counter; kind of like what I understand happened with Radio Shack branded products.

Yeah, the "real" RK56 has been shit for about 15 years, but the '90s mics are good stuff.
