NOT to start an argument, But I do Freeband and have for many years. I go up to 27.655 lsb to 26.785 am. At no given time do I go into 10 Meter Band. There are a lot of us that do QSO on 20 channels above 27.405, And Dx down on lower AM Channels. And yes i thought seriously about my Tech.Ticket, But I still see a lot of Hammies come down to Freeband, And always will. JMO.

This 980 ain't gonna be for everyone, that's a given. But it's modern looking and fits in a single din slot(why I want one). Now if it sounds good/clear, and if it's SSB stable...then it's a seller. Mods can come later.

Like the looks? Is it capable? Don't know yet. If it is, then run an amp and call it good.

If anything it will function like the Radio Shack HTX-10 in that it is not easy to convert but it should work well for what it is.... The mods will come later! *Don`t do it* I had a Radio Shack 485 and that was a tough nut to crack but it was able to go all over with digital readout.... narrow chassis though!

Well here's one for sale. I talked to the seller who has this one and one he uses for himself said that it is a really sweet talking radio. It does 18 to 19 watts pep when tuned and from what he said it tuned up nicely! Also stability on SSB is SUPERIOR to the Cobra 148 GTL. It sounds like we may have a winner here!
