The Final in that radio is a 2sc2166 ( this is used as a driver on a lot of SSB radios, but for a small AM only rig it is what they use) and the driver is a 2sc2086
\ The Final is Q 501 on the board and is a TO-220 case style
The driver is Q 2 on the board and is a to-92 case style
The Pre driver is Q 3 on the board and is a to-92 case style
Radio with covers removed, left hand side, in the back next to SO 239 antenna connector.

Isn't the 2166 only rated at 5-7 watts?
Yep, about 7 or 7.5 watts output, a bit more at 13.8 volts.
These radios are not known for big numbers although they do OK for what they are.
The pro 500, the 510, the 520, the 540 all use a 2166 for a final.
Normally you would see a 2166 driving a 2312 in more expensive radios.

Before final.

I looked in one of my Grant XLs and sure enough a 2166 driving a 1969.
Just curious because on Bozo's forum a year ago or so, someone was claiming their standard peaked and tuned 510 was swinging 25 watts. Volting or an NPC mod would fall way short of that. The 510 does have a decent set of ears on it.
Seriously, i knew a CB hacker that had a meter he used to show customers how wild thier radios were after he did his thing to them! He used a dosy meter and had an open ended coax in the wall. His bench meter was a Bird. Nobody saw his bench gear because he never let anyone behind the "curtain". LOL

I stopped at a shop last week to get length of coax. The guy was "helping" another customer. He had a Dosy, and a Bird reading the radio at the same time. I thought I would be a smart ass and asked him why the Bird was reading different than the Dosy. He told me the Dosy leaked wattage and the Bird was there to catch it. Add the two numbers together, and that is your true output on the radio.
I didn't need that coax after all.
