When you look at older stereo equipment - the physical "layout" and the ability for one tuning knob to handle the main ganged Tuning cap - along with it's ability to tune the IF it needs to discriminate in FM modes and BFO with AM - it's a feat in itself and is why "Old school" worked the way it did. Each spool and wheel, cog and roller - tied/looped by a string all had a purpose and reason to be there.

The TEMPO 2020 is a spinoff that Uniden did

They (Parochial or Public) taught you more of the physical realm of wheels, ratios and the mathematics of both so you can take the place of another one that wants to retire, move up or otherwise relocate to another position - and if you wanted the corporate and Administration level - you needed a college degree. Basic rudimentary skill set was what school was intended for, to help our kids learn to work and be productive members of society.

Boy, did that go wrong...

As technology grew the old school is cast aside and those that worked in that realm have been displaced or attritional effects of lost sales due to the newer technology taking over in the consumer market by it's own demands.

'Tis is when the old school way of doing things - shows up and outlasts the newer technology due to the physical nature of itself - the build quality as well as lower maintenance needs or durability. Than, compared to, that of the successor productions subsequently had - the disposable generational effects of technology - it is easier to get newer one than to fix the old.

Only in this case, the old, offer far better results and lower costs to keep and maintain than to simply replace it with newer technology because the newer technology had built in preventative measures that kept people from going beyond what they are allowed. Only now, that has changed, the older technology - like the Tempo - can still outperform many of todays units and go to places they simply cannot - even with Tempos own limitations.

It's like the Tubes to Transistor story, Vacuum to Solid State - now we are reworking older Vacuum technology into the "Solid-state" realm by reinvesting into MOSFET technology but in doing so, we see, or those gremlins that were once only related exclusively to tubes, is retuning back as parasites in MOSFET platforms.

But to see on old Tempo rebuilt using our newer technology of 3D printing - allows us to maintain the older equipment by fixing what was once an Achilles' Heel of it.
