unknown mobile CB antenna

Who knows? Whatever. I hate antennas. All they do is just stand around like a bunch of jerks. I stopped using antennas years ago

those coils have a LOT of length in them . is it supposed to be a 1/2 wave or longer W/L antenna ?
and the radials under the lower coil .... it that an attempt at fooling someone into thinking theres a groundplane to improve performance ?
looks to be maybe 4 ft tall ???
far better performance can be had for (most likely) far less money .

That is a stargun with stargun puck mount I am runnin 2 stargun pucks. The antenna is a custome stargunn never seen one like that there are 3 guys here that run the ground plane & botton coil with a whip, now the top coil is the custome part. Using all the coils makes the antenna shorter & takes away a whip I have never tested a antenna that has so many coils it does not need a whip.

Here the link to the antenna stargun sell that is pretty close to the one in the pic Stargun Antenna Photo-Gallery

DJ , that antenna doesnt have a groundplane on it , the radials are on the hot side of the antenna , not the ground side . each of those coils have a lot of radiator length in them and the two of them together double their loss . if that antenna seems slick , its because its covered in snake oil .

the coily you have now should be a more effective antenna . and i would expect one of those coilys in the center of the roof of your van to easly out perform the pair they way they are mounted low on the sides of your van . if you want to improve your antenna system that would be my recomendation , put one on top of your vehicle ....... and forget about drive throughs !! LOL

I think there's just 'more' to that thing than will ever really be useful. A 'looks' thingy, not much electrical benefit. It does have a 'fold-over' feature, that would be useful maybe! Just don't poke an eye out when you fold it over...

The "Expert" Antenna Guru has spoken!

OK DJ...If it doesn't need a whip..."How do you tune it?" Or are you going to try and tell us it doesn't need tuning?

It has a stinger, IF you took the time to look, you would see it...It's only sticking up maybe a half inch tho...

I think you need two of those stuck on the roof of your van, to go with the other two stuck on the sides.......And be sure to get two more stargun mounts, since you know how to fix them up with bungee cords when they break, you should be good to go!:bdh:

One thing for sure is that the StarGun antenna was the first antenna that was produced modular. Long before everyone started to copy the manner in which Troy was assembling them. Troy started making them in the late '60s to early '70s, in a time when 108" whips were the standard. Yes, 108", not 102". So many antenna manufacturers have copied his way of putting them together that it is not funny.
Whether they work or not is not the real question, will they sell? Yes. He has proven this along with all the other ones that have followed in his footsteps.
If you got rid of all the snake oil out there that is available, there would not be too much stuff to talk about.
