Try disconnecting the USB devices one by one to determine if the noise is coming from an external device or the USB controller in the computer.

so the noise starts once you start HRD? until then (i'm a mac guy, and haven't tried hrd yet so just speculating) windows recognizes the radio but there's no data transfer? imo it's prob the usb cable from radio to 'puter....hrd and your radio interacting....is the cable choked?

Not choked. Yes it can be plugged in but as soon as HRD turns on it happens. I can choke but you have any photo of the proper way to choke a cable.... with snap choke or donut chokes ?

Try ferrite around the cable on each end of the radio. Also make sure that the computer and the radio have a common ground or you can create a ground loop.

Another thing to try is to go into the advanced com port settings and uncheck the "serial enumerator" box. I have seen very occasionally that setting cause noise.
