Video of Homemade Moxon Rectangle and Uniden 980

Direct Injecting is bypassing the audio chain, no limiters or filters. Just have to be careful with the setup because you can over modulate. A lot of studio sounding radios you hear run mics, eq's, and processors. Some even run through the computer with audio software. I only have about $50 in the mic, EQ and tube preamp. I just want a different sound so the locals don't mistake me for someone else, it happens.

SSK is suppose to have a more base in the audio , I did get mine working but talked to 1305 in the UK with it an he said it was louder but not as clear as the D 104 an I had it cut way back maybe it's time I cut the adjustment back on the bottom an give it a try . Sure would like to use it . I can't get any local checks around here to play with it . Guess I have to make up a Talk Back system with an old radio or something I tried using another radio like was suggested in another thread but all it did was squeal with No antenna an RF gain all the way down .

980

I have my radio/amp on a gamber Johnson radio rack in the passenger side floor board. I can switch out my 99v2 to the 980 In a matter of seconds. Sometimes I just get tired of the galaxy because of the traditional galaxy issues and put the 980 back in. On Wednesday I had the 980 in the car and talked to the UK several times talked to the west coast several times. I have the sirio 5000 hard mounted. I know the 980 doesn't make any difference in dx conditions because its either there or it isn't but I've had good results with the 980. Not knocking the galaxy but when it does finally die I won't be getting another one. I just don't like all the bugs that come with them. The 980 may lack features but quality wise you can't beat it. I like the surface mount technology.

AL567 , Nice set up I just made a rack out of an old rack that use to hold plastic draws it holds the 140 gtl an the amp plus ext. speaker.it has a handle on it that makes it easy to carry . I have to purchase some Anderson connectors to make the install process a little easier .One of these days I'll figure out how to post pic's so I can show you .

I'd like to see pics of your install when you can post some. I've got mine set up this way with quick connects so I can remove the whole setup in about a minute. Take the whole radio rack in the house. Throw in a floor mat and take the family out.

AL567 , I'll take some pic's today an see if I can get my wife to upload them . I still have not got that figured out yet . It takes me about the same amount of time to install . The handle makes it sweet an the Anderson connectors will speed up the install . The way I have it now I have to plug in 4 wires an screw the antenna in , but seeing as I drive a Mitsubishi pick up it still takes up quite a bit of room an the dog keeps Flippin' the switches on the amp ! lol

The SSK is designed for Sideband communcations and the D104 is for AM.

W9 , Thanks ! Yes that's what I was told when I bought the radio I have been fine tuning it but really have not given it a lot of air time ! Now that I have it ( I believe ) straightened out I think the only way to figure it out is use it an go from there .The D 104 picks up WAY too much back ground ! I still for the life of me figure out why if I turn up the dyna mic on the radio past 10 o'clock it distorts the receive . I just received my new Dosy with the modulation meter today so I'll give it a try tomorrow .

D104's are very good mics but they do pick up everything as you has said. Most hams that use them use the un-amped version which I think is the tug8. If you like the style of the mic then look for the 10-DA head for it, this was designed for SSB.

But, everything I've read, the audio section in radios would only cover about 300-3000hz.

That's more than enough. Its communications audio you're doing and you want to be concentrating mostly in the 2-2.4kHz area to give you the best articulation. Articulation is what is important for DXing.

Here's a lesson from Bob Heil.

Carries on for about 20 minutes or so as he shows a bit about the mixer and then goes on to how you want to be setting up the EQ. Skip to about 50 minutes for just the EQ bit.

Just remember with that video he is talking about rigs that have an AUX in/out on the back. Most cb's will require modifying the system board to get it all hooked up.
