The service manual for this transceiver does not reference any "roger beeps".
I've got one of these and they are very nice radios. I've compared it to a few other ham radios and some exports and there's no comparison.

I like my FT 891 but the 7300 sounds better on receive and hears weaker stations a bit easier. Menu system on the 891 doesn't help but the size and remote head certainly do.

Ok, maybe i found a radio. Im a cb guy. Studying for my ticket. I like the base exports but agree with the notion of buying a hf rig because of quality and the ability to use it on other bands. I would love to be able to listen and learn to use a hf rig while still be able to operate 11 meter . This seems like a high quality entry level rig that may be for me.
I'm using mine mobile on 11M and 10M right now, it works really well, the NB is better than most other HF rigs out there, although if you get annihilated by multiple impulse noises at once, some will bleed through, but that tends to be more extreme situations, overall its much better than most after you get it tweaked in.
About the only thing wrong with the 7300 is the stock mic has crap output, but that is easily remedied by the mod that's floating around, I wish I could find it right now, but you unsolder a trace or a resistor or something inside the mic, it's pretty easy.
After doing this the mic has plenty of output and drives the radio easily.
Another observation... when the radio has been sitting in freezing temps overnight, when you first fire it up, the ALC doesnt read properly, but once the radio warms up, that works itself out. Not a huge issue.
The reviews on youtube for this radio do not do it justice, half the people on YT don't know how to tune in an SSB signal properly.
The value prop of this thing is incredible. Might buy another someday.
While I was tempted by the 7610 they'd be idiots. I think the 7610 is going to end up being a failure unless they resolve the QC issues with the screen burn, etc. The radio needs a "MKII' edition or to get replaced by a 7620 or something. I have seen barely used ones selling for big price cuts. Those loose-as-shit control knobs they put on the radio are pretty disgusting, too. A wobbly volume knob with no resistance on a 3K radio? wtf? It's kind of sad really, because that thing had a lot of potential WRT doing true dual RX at its price point, and its a nice sounding radio, too.
Yes, but it's pretty easy if you have a decent soldering iron, fine tweezers and enough skills to remove the tiny diode [or is it a resistor?] on the board. If it's intimidating find someone with decent skills. I probably have "C" level skills and I did it in 5 minutes, then again I've probably unlocked a dozen radios. I used a weller WTCPT and some fine tweezers....basically I just heat up one end, pry it gently, and heat up the other, while gripping with tweezers...and the grain of sand will be released... then I do a full cpu reset and you're back in business. The reset might not even be necessary but I do it as a matter of old habit.
