Hello fellow CB enthusiasts!

My trusty Super Penetrator 500 has developed an issue that will likely take some time to resolve, so that being said, I am in the market for an antenna to replace it. I plan on fixing the SPT-500 and keeping it as a backup antenna.

Here's what I am looking for:

Wanting something that's aluminum, omni-directional, vertical, ground plane. I want something that's 5/8 wave or .64. I need something that can handle high winds, as the winds here on the hill can gust in excess of 60-70 mph at times. Money isn't an issue, and I would like to find something that is available for immediate purchase.

Any thoughts or input on where I could get something of this nature would be greatly appreciated, thank you! (y)

~Cheers~
I use a Sirio New Tornado 27 (5/8 Vert. comes w/ GPK) it is a budget antenna @ $110, don't know if it has been mentioned here yet but after 1 year the only issue i've had is the very highest element sliding down, a little threadlocker fixed that issue!

Power handling ratings of this antenna show it should do well for "most operators"; if you need "more", I've heard good things about the "Mr. Coily" line up. A local guy runs one and it rocks.

GROUND PLANE - DP-275-27 - "Devant Special" 11 Meters
5/8 wave vertical ground plane antenna offers dependable base-to-base, and base-to-mobile communications you can count on.

Its exclusive design is yet unequaled by any other antennas of its kind. This antenna delivers a consistent 360° Omni-directional radiation pattern.
The DEVANT is second to none in construction.

I believe I'll nab one of those.

"I talked to Jay a few days ago, he sounded like he wants to start building the I10K again, he said there are a few obstacles in the way he needs to work out first.

I've been toying with just such a concept antenna, DIY.

Not to drive the topic off into the gutter (unless gutters are good?), but my concept materials would be very low cost, relatively rugged (albeit not lasting over about 5 years), and could potentially widen your horizons (still researching the matching coil for a 0.64 wave design). If the concept is of interest and pertinent, I'll give more details, just let me know.

About 25yrs ago I helped my cousin build a 5/8 but lost the plans until I found them last weekend. Maybe I'll give it a go.
Keith you wrote .64, don't you mean .625 for 5/8? Not trying to be anal, just wondering about the number. Wouldn't .625 round up to .63 not .64?

Is it different from a 5/8 or just a common term for 5/8? I always thought a 5/8 was a very good antenna and yes, even magic at times, but that's really the atmosphere
