a new Kenwood TS-2000....

Back story is I sold my 1981 Monte Carlo with a BBC 396. it was fast:drool:. got $3,600 after nagging from my wife to sell it, coming to the conclusion that as I had no where to store it, gas and insurance was a lot of money, it needs lot of body work and paint.
it had to go...
So I decided to order the radio and a antenna analyzer mfj-266 because I want to play.. I am excited about this new venture and cant wait. the radio will be here Friday and then Saturday morning I am taking my Tech test ill give the general a shot I have been studying only 2 weeks on the general the tech I can pass in my sleep..

I think the TS-2000 will be good for me as I don't have room for all the gear in my computer room with the computers and server in the way.
so wish me luck on the test and hope ill bump in to you guys on the air..

Cool beans. Best of luck on your test. I didn't prep enough for General (ok, not at all), and didn't pass it when I got Tech. Taking a class now, and hope to have General here in a couple of weeks. The Kenwood should be a lot of fun for you, even if you don't get Gen this time around. Good incentive to pass, too!

The TS-2k is a nice rig,, congrats! (I would have kept the car)

Yeah I am taking hell for selling it from my friends. but it went to a good home 55 year old guy that wanted a hot rod

yeah I am not doing so hot on the General class pretest test but I am getting better.

It will be nice I can still use 10, 6, 2 metters, & 70cm with the tech.
Till then it is a high priced CB :tongue_smilie:

Did you pass? Nice radio. Thought about a 2000 but I already have a 7000.

I am taking it on the 17th

Dang it I got all excited because I thought you were taking it today! LOL Well, that gives you more time to study. :) I use hamexam.org and the Gordo book. The online test really helped me get 100% ready for the Tech test.

As for the Kenwood, absolutely use it on those bands once you get Tech. I have had a lot of fun on 2 meters and 440 with the local guys in D/FW. 10 meter DX was a lot of fun til it fizzled out last week. Hopefully it will come back soon.

I know it's a little off topic, but how do you like your 7000? Are you using it mobile or base? If base, do you use HRD with it?

I love that radio. Mic mod is a must. Base only. I hot a matching Ic speaker included and the audio is outstanding. Some complain about the heat but I have never had an issue in 4 years. The radio is idiot proof. Voltage or swr off and it shuts off when you key.

As a tech you have privileges on 80,40,15 and 10M as well .... Isn't this covered on the exams and study material anymore?

Outside 10 its cw only

x2

Yes all the other bands are CW with a tech. So unless I can run a CW keyer through a Computer that's not going to happen... ill never get CW I just cant do it.. for me it is like playing an instrument I was never able, not that i didn't have the drive. I was just no good.

By the way I was thinking of that yesterday.. has any one came up with a system to convert CW to plan text?? then plan text to CW with a computer?
that would be awesome for people like me. and I know it can be done just a box interfaced with a computer through a sound card then a keyer through a serial port .
