As a tech you have privileges on 80,40,15 and 10M as well .... Isn't this covered on the exams and study material anymore?

Of course it's covered in the material. And there's a reason code was dropped as a requirement, too. :bdh:

I'm still considering "re-learning" it, because of the efficiency of the mode, and the ability to be copied in bad conditions using low power (especially in emergency situations). Beyond that, I don't have a fascination for it. Most new Techs that I have met are far more interested in phone and digital modes. The really young guys seem to naturally gravitate towards the computer applications.

Yes all the other bands are CW with a tech. So unless I can run a CW keyer through a Computer that's not going to happen... ill never get CW I just cant do it..

When I took my Tech test I thought I would never get it as well.
For me, code quick was what helped me get it inside my my head.
I had a 45 min drive to work, so I would slap a tape in the player and just listen.
Passed my Tech in July and in Nov passed 1A and upgraded to Tech w/HF
Yes there are programs to decode and send CW with your computer.
MFJ even has a stand alone unit the will decode and send CW with your radio.

There are also programs out there that simply require a connection from the radio to the computer sound card and another from a com port out to the radio's PTT line. Google is your friend. They will decode CW and often other modes and display it on the screen in addition to allowing you to type and have it sent via the radio. They work but need tweaking to decode signals and will not work that well if the signal is weak or noisy. The very best CW decoder bar none is located right between your ears.

Cool thanks. yeah i am goin to google it it was just enquiring

Study, study and study some more and get the general if possible. It's not luck if you practice and learn the needed material. Or you can memorize it and pass as well. Take as many practice tests as possible and you can do it. I won't say good luck, I will say this, practice makes perfect. A little luck never hurts but proper planning will get you there. God bless and enjoy.
