West Coast/California DX contacts today . . .

Gotta love that international DX!

Who I spoke to today:

2div357_Cecil ---------------------- Tuscon, AZ
17div171 --------------------------- Jamaica
37CBRT860_Johnnie -------------- Dominican Republic
17WR111_Bobby ------------------ Hawaii
17div622_Walt -------------------- Hawaii
17WR000_Richard ---------------- Hawaii
17WR369_Stan -------------------- Hawaii
43WR894_Scotty ------------------ Australia
43WR789_Peter ------------------- Australia
43WR161_Jay --------------------- Australia
43WR926_John ------------------- Western Australia (Welding Machine)

I just wasn't hearing any Lower 48 USA skip except for Cecil in Arizona. he was the first contact of the day.

Woke up this morning and made several calls to Europe with fair to weak conditions. I did not write the contacts down. Heard division 147/Tunisia calling back to me as conditions were fading too. Mostly France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, and the UK. However, I did write down my last contact from Slovenia:

327KL137 Peter 5/7 27.415mhz/LSB Slovenia 10:10 PST

Since there are few sunspots and the Solar Flux Units are low; conditions are bound to get better.
Keep those pencils sharpened!

Are conditions getting better? On O the left coast?? Have not heard a peep from you guys.?? I did hear a San Diego mobile last night working Papua New Guinea, both 5/7 here, later worked both stations.
Have not dxman or 9sd001 nor much from the west states areas....little and low signals from 41-43 but the pacific is booming into Texas Guam, 91,133, 79, 201 all late in the afternoon. South American and Central America is daily, Europe-Africa slowed a bit but still in during the mornings, much weaker than a couple week back. Good dx

Solar conditions (sunspot count, position relative to the Earth, and the SFI index) haven't been favorable over the last week. We do get Australia in the early evenings still; but not always strong enough to make contacts with.

I made my farthest contact today! Talked with "959" in
Melbourne, Australia...from the Oregon coast, mobile running
My grant xl, 150 footwarmer and 102" ss whip........now
I'm definitely hooked..lol...

124 one two four, Oregon Coast

Set/ park right at the waters edge.....listen and listen again...not only for the strong stations....also the ones right at the noise levels. The closer I drive to saltwater bays here(no cliffs around in s Texas beach areas) the lower the noise level drops. Many contacts are audio only....not much on the s-meter.
Saltwater is our best friend, last nite the band was open well after dark here....nothing was real strong but west coast, South and central America and some pacific/ Asia stations could be heard, very few were over 5/3 many were just above the noise. If you can hear them, many times you can make contact
Being mobile is a plus in many cases, I run a mag mount 60 inch Wilson, with your 102 you should have great ears. I feel the biggest mistake I make is calling rather then listening.....last couple days I listened for couple hours and made several Dx contacts. Some are rarer than the normal ....listening is a key element. Good luck and good Dx.

Hope this wasn't just a 'flash in the pan'; but I was hearing France and Brazil today. Seems that DX conditions are starting to pop up again here on the West Coast. Gonna get up real early tomorrow and be ready.

Just a 'heads up' for those interested. . .

Since I fixed my dipole today. Ive been trying both vertical (A99) and horizontal (Double Spooky Bazooka) with the conditions. First time hearing California in a while and heard a Maui station rockin the Bowl (ch.6) I haven't had any lucky today with my barefoot Cobra 2K.

Maybe I'll try a bit later on if conditions stick around.

It's Alive ... Its ALIVE!! 11m DX up north here has been non-existent the last 6 months. Even heard some yahoo on 27.965 AM, must have thought he was on channel 1. If I remember correctly when Robb started this thread, I think his intention was more along the line of 11m reports, so that the other "meter" stuff doesn't matter.
