What have you done today to be prepared?

And now I'm making a portable station, using the Mckinley.
This is nowhere as sophisticated as the ammo cans Shadetree mechanic does. In my case, the ammo can is only to carry the radio, coax, power cord, antenna, etc..
The power source is my Jackery 300 with 100 watt recharging solar panel.

Speaking of antenna.. this is coming in a few days.

Surly there's been more preparations recently, besides myself. :giggle:

So I decided to use the Lincoln ll plus instead of the Mckinley on this new project with the dipole. There’s more options and I wasn't sure about my Jackery power supply capabilities when running a radio of this size. So yesterday I connected the radio using the supply and turned it on. I let it run for 14 hours and the power was down to 55 %. Today, after a full charge, I've been talking on said radio and have made lots of contacts. Running full power on the radio I made around 14 solid contacts and after 4 hours the supply is at 43 percent. Not too shabby!

In full sunlight it takes the solar panel 5 hours to charge the Jackery when it's at 20%

Project number 2 - It's time again to open the safe and clean the hunting rifles, shotgun and pistols, etc.. And that's what I'm about to do...

I have a couple Yeti Goal Zero 1500x Solar generators.
@100watts FM on ten meters pulls a little over 20 amps from the DC power port. They have 2000 watt 3500 peak pure sine wave inverters and 1500ah battery packs.
Can recharge with AC, DC in my truck and @600watts of solar input.
Extremely useful during power outages and when going portable or camping.
No fuel no fumes and easy for my wife to operate.

This is the power supply I bought at Home Depot a few years back but I think it's getting tired. They say the battery isn't changeable but what goes together must come apart, maybe with a mod. It has it's own little solar panel which does work.

Looks like is powered by a lead acid battery, may require carefully cutting it open and regluing the case back together but I bet it is replaceable.
Neat little box.

Yes I believe your right Jeff about the lead acid battery and careful replacement of. It still works so I'm waiting until it doesn't then I have Nothing to Loose. Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained ! LOL

Some of us were forced to be penny pinchers because of poverty. The area I come from has always been behind the national average for wages. The USAF taught me a good trade but not for this area. But makes you good at fixing 2nd hand stuff. LOL
