There's no practical differences at all. Both consist of the same sized whip, loading/matching coil. The coil is wound with larger wire in the '5000', yes, but the only thing changed because of that is it's power handling ability. As for that power handling ability, in my opinion you'd probably get better results spreading it on a garden than believing it.

The stinger is the same in both but the coil in the 5000 is quite a bit larger gauge. That really means zilch considering the coax on the 1000 is RG58 and the 5000 has only mini 8. The coil of the 5000 might very well handle 5000 watts but the coax sure as hell won't.
Performance difference between the 1000 and 5000 is the same.
I only prefer the Wilson 5000 over the 1000 because of the coax.
Both Wilsons do use high quality coax but Mini 8 coax is good for only 1000 watts pep so the power ratings of the 5000 is laughable. Great base load antennas which are very light and have very a low wind load.
As far as Transmit and Receive is concerned you will not notice a difference. So, the only real difference is price... It is a very good antenna. I bought the 5000 when I went to a shop that quoted me a price for the 1000 then gave me the 5000 and charged me the same price.
