What is the SSB mobil CB these days.

I can understand some people's disdain for echo , noise toys and Roger beep. but why the hate for talkback? Nobody is going to hear it on the other end of the radio. Don't like it then don't use it. I use mine to adjust my mic and to hear if I have a microphone problem or some else going wrong with radio system.

I don't always talk to myself but when I do i use talk back.

I like a hint of echo, dunno why, but I like the talkback but I also like loud audio, so turning the mic gain up I get feedback until I turn off the talkback. depends no my mood I guess. Right now, I am trying to reach as far as I can (locals are at least 15 mi away) so I keep the TB off to give all the audio I can.

I guess we got to start a "Riverman GoFundMe" program so he can afford a decent radio, amp, and a can of Spam. Any leftovers will go toward providing some decent coax.

All right, you dirty birds. You talked me into it. :p

$129 at the local Flying J. Not the best price, not the worst.

Will post a pic this evening once set up.

When talkback is done correctly, the ONLY person who knows it is on is the operator using it. When done incorrectly, every body knows it is being used. A buddy of mine uses it, & I know it because he will be talking to me & then godawful feedback. Then he comes back & says that he moved the Mic the wrong way, or some such nonsense. I hear more feedback from his radio than anyone else I have ever chatted with. I used to run a mixing board for church worship & learned to hate feedback with a passion. I would push the limits in an empty building, & somebody would always want more!

Just like I Love my RAM 1500 with the HEMI & I own lots of ICOM radio gear because I Love it as well. Some Hate a RAM & ICOM & that's their choice. One of those things I Love about AMERICA is Freedom of Choice & the 2nd Amendment of course. LOL Like I said,I use another radio for setting my audio on a radio & I always keep the stock microphone handy so just in case the power microphone dies I am still good.I don't see Talkback as a feature because a feature is something I will actually use like the waterfall display on my ICOM 7600 that I find pretty much Useless but ICOM says it's an added Feature.I use the band scope 100% of the time & the waterfall display Never because I see zero need for it but it's there.

I have an SRA-198 mic to send in the C.A.R.E. package. Please keep the Radio for Riverman box in the UPS Store window unsent till it gets there.

Have feelers out on which Fox News affiliate for live coverage when it arrives. Do we go with the spitting disabled vet story who can speak legibly if using a radio rig, or the homeless paraplegic with a handheld who saved all those truckers lost on a Farm-To -Market Road maze in the blizzard of ‘79 schtick?

.

Well, I'll be.....
Now where is that 203
And a D104M6B ?

(y)(y)(y)

Just talked to the locals for the first time. Nice guys. Got great radio reports.
Don't need the 203 to talk across town.
Might add a power mic later.
No separate CB antenna.
Using my Chameleon 10-80 meter vertical 4' off the ground. :D
SWR: 1.8 on Ch 1, 1.7 on Ch 20, and 1.6 on Ch 40. I'm good with those. (y)
Really liking this 980. :p

Over and out.

Thanks, Slowmover, but me and noise canceling mics don't get along. Something about my voice. (n)

I like the paraplegic angle. He posted a pic of a 980 box on kitchen table. Not sure if the Blue Light Special was a good rue until the 980 got there....but we are happy common sense has prevailed. But we must keep diligently moving to get him that 203 and a D104M6B, so those guys "across town" think he's "right next door".

A power mic is a good thing for those. It just seems to help the transmitted audio... just beware that some of the new power mics have crappy switches that either need to be lubed, or replaced. Otherwise it makes a heck of a noise/ has trouble keying when you key up.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your new radio.
