On a good all around dx/ssb mobile rig?? and where can i find one? i will want to run a texas star dx500 or 500v behind it.

Can't go wrong with an old 148GTL, or a GrantXL, I doubt you will find many to disagree with that. Maybe Uniden 2510, 2600, RCI 2950, Magnum 257 are all pretty nice as well... I have a very nice Grant XL, I'll make you a sweet deal on..:)

Well you're in the Export forum and stated a "DX" radio, so we'll assume you want a wide frequency spread. You don't need a high power radio as you're going to run an amp.....

Can't go wrong with the RCI 2950DX or earlier 2950

The 8719 chassis (148GTL/GrantXL) is easily modded to cover 79 channels below 1, and well into 10 meters no skips and direct readout, these radios will do everything any export can.

There are 3 generations of this chassis (2950), stay away from first gen easily distinguished by its button battery, they worked great when they worked but the CPU can become problematic with age, and is most likely to have problems.

yeah i know i use to own a 2950 and did not care much for it, i am looking more for something toward the galaxy/rci area, anyt houghts??

i agree with undertaker on the export choices except for the 2970DX , thats wayyyyy too much radio to put in front of a 500V . i also agree with Mr. Fatty on the old school classics being better than whats made today . my old uniden washington (8719 PLL) is absolutely better on RX than the export it replaced and locals (whos opinion i do trust and respect) say it is louder and more robust sounding . if you cant or dont really use those export channels you wasting money on them . a properly running old cobra/uniden radio will out perform them on cb channels .

The Galaxy DX 99V is one of my favorite radios. I've used it driving from CA to IA earlier this summer. The receive in it is one of the very best, so is the TX audio. Everything about that radio is 'blam - right on' except for the talkback (I disconnected with an internal on/off switch). I think GI Joe's has refurbed 99's for a decent price.

I think that either a Galaxy or a Magnum are very nice radios. They both deliver a lot of features with solid performance at a fair price. My other favorite radio (my base radio) is my Magnum OmegaForce S45.
Sweet!

What is your budget?

a President 2510 is a great radio and is an absolute gem on SSB if that isnt easily found then as mentioned a nice 2950 old or new is a great choice I like both the radios and own both I also own a 2970 which is the high power version of the 2950 but if your to run an amp[lifier then a 150-200 watt radio such as the 2970 is not a good option I like them because its plenty of power to get you out and heard on the air and theres less coax and power wires to deal with seeings how its right out of the radio.
