What LCD Tv to Buy?

My; how the specs on these things have changed in just one year from when that video was made. The Vizio I have has a 10,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio - to begin with. But the refresh rate of 240Hz is a major plus. Flicker free performance; providing the source/data can keep up with it. It is an edge lit LED/LCD to boot. I paid almost $200 less for than I did 6 1/2 years ago for the 42" Vizio.

VIZIO M-Series 47 inch 3D LED Smart TV with VIZIO Internet Apps® | M3D470KD | VIZIO

They really have come a long way, as well as the other mfrs too.
Competition between mfrs is pretty high; they want that dollar . . .

We have a 37" & 42" Visio from Wal Mart. Like them just fine.

All I run for most electronics in our house is SONY but VIZIO is made By SONY ;) SONY is a bit Pricey but we have had great luck with them for years and years. The only other brand I would even consider after SONY or VIZIO is another that after research is getting rave reviews is SAMSUNG.

It is Amazing how little people Know about TV's..

I am in the Business 34 years.
Besides picture quality
(used to be for CRT tube tv's sony and zenith ruled)

One also needs to consider what manufactures
stand behind their product more then a year
(i am Not persay referring to the warranty)

Rather parts availability for the tv you are buying.

To that end..
Sony,Samsung,Panasonic do a decent job
of the non top brands Visio though now has a good to excellent rated pic quality it still falls greatly short in parts availabilities .

Used to be Picture Quality was Pretty much Owned by Sony
(sony the one and Only)

Not persay so these days
Now Samsung may actually be better

Visio a rising to the near top of non quality known brands
offer great to excellent picture quality minis parts availability and longevity / lifespan.

Beyond all of the Above however.

One needs to Know and or Ask..
What features are wanted and or needed.
What qualities are Most Important to you.

Even within Sony and Samsung there are HUGE differences
Not simply in the size of a tv..
But also picture quaility.

1080P or I or 720P (resolution)
Refresh rates of anywhere from 60-600

Flat panel (only way to go if you ask me )
or projection tv
(only to consider if you are making a movie room with huge 100 plus picture size)

In Flat panels..

Plazma (Best refresh rates...but use the most power)
LCD (offer Excellent pic quality without using crazy power)
LED (use typicaly least power..and lightest/flatest tv's for wall mounting)

Someone on this Thread said something along the lines...

Love my sony bravia..
All flat panel sony tv's are a bravia (means Nothing)

Someone said buy samsung..it makes all tv screans(siting even making all of sony's...WRONG ...Not sony XBR /XBR2 /XBR3

What connections do you need/want..
WiFi ?
using it for your computer screen ?

My suggestion all that said...

Samsung..
depending on features will depend on model.

if you buy larger then 37" tv buy the damm warranty and do not be stupid (i can not tell you how often tv's need service...The biggest issue is heat build up..but there are many other issues as well)

Anything more you want to Know..

Ask me !!!

That may have been me. I realize that all Sony flat screen are now Bravia (Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture} and merely mentioned that so as to distinguish it from the older Sony WEGA flat screens which were renamed to Bravia in 2005.

My $20 37" vizio flat screen works for me. Black Friday is coming up and i def want a new tv but not sure what type or model to get:rolleyes:

Hey C.K.

Is ok..
Wega made reference to all of sony's CRT tv's with receivers but tubes having flat tubes on them (prior to Wega was the Trinitron Tubes)

Soon the anti is to Rise Again..

Just as people are getting used to hearing of
High Definition TV
and 3D tv
(forget most buy the wrong stuff in a tv)

Several things are to change yet again
'4K Ultra High Definition'
to replace LED will be OLED and other technologies

People barely understand 1080P and 1080I differences.
Now they need to know what 4K is
(basically 1080P times 4..or 4320P)

Below 37-40 inch tv's one can not discern difference between 1080I and 1080P
(1080I by the way is not 1080 lines but actually 540 lines)

Just as people are sort of used to HDMI
it will likely need to change again

Oh and someone mentioned a Harmony Remote..

Good suggestion..
many others are far better..
Depending on what you use and want.

Good Suggestion though.

A lot of people these days are actually intergrating
TV...Video and audio.
Both inside and outside the house.

Some also adding security to the systems as they ReVamp Everything..

There is A Lot that can be done these days.

Question is..

What do you want and or Need..

How Much are you willing and or able to pay.

How much of a custom install are you prepared for
(and sure those you have to do it actually understand and know it themselves)

Sonos and Control 4 are just starter systems

I can go on and on and on

From someone who spent two years among other things setting up home theater systems, showing the customer how to use those four to five remotes, they are confused. Then you bring out the Harmony Remote that you already have programmed for their setup and you press one button and point the remote at their set for a few seconds, they buy it every time.

I'm not saying that there aren't better or higher end remotes out there, but the difference between a fully programmable remote (like a Harmony) and anything commonly called a "universal remote" is worlds of difference.

In todays world there is a big difference in what is possible and what the average person can afford or will be happy with. I agree, it all comes down to meeting the needs and wants of the individual/family involved.

Sonos and Control 4 are just starter systems

Starter systems they are, that being true, they do increase the capability of the average homeowner by quite a bit, and many average homeowners have no idea such capability even exists.

I can go on and on and on

The Home Theater world is like computers now days. Things advance and change much more often than the average person realizes. Since the advent if in home HD it has been changing at an ever increasing pace, and I highly doubt it will stop anytime soon. The only thing I see stopping this trend is them getting to the point that more doesn't get you anything, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

As you put it so well:
I can go on and on and on
